Poly(urethane-ether-amide) (PUIEtA) nanocomposite coatings on mild steel were prepared by using corn oil, isosorbide and isophorone diisocynate and fumed silica. The syntheses steps were confirmed by FTIR, H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR spectroscopy techniques. The morphology of PUIEtA nanocomposite coating was studied by SEM-EDX, that confirmed the presence of nanosilica and thermal behavior was studied by DSC/TGA analysis. The anticorrosion performance of PUIEtA coating systems on mild steel, exposed to 3.5wt% NaCl solution, was evaluated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Scratch hardness, pencil hardness, adhesion, and bending test were performed in order to investigate the performance of nanocomposite coating on mild steel substrate. It was found that PUIEtA-fumed silica nanocomposite coating could provide much better protection than PUIEtA. PUIEtA-3 nanocomposite coating can be safely used up to 200 degrees C.

A facile catalyst-free one-pot three component synthesis of pharmacologically important indole-centered 4H-chromenes in a deep eutectic solvent (DES)*

Shakeel Alvi, Manawwer Alam, Rashid Ali

Summary: The popularity of multicomponent reactions (MCRs) lies in their versatility and simplicity, which allows for the synthesis of a variety of valuable bioactive products and fine chemicals. In this paper, a simple and efficient protocol for assembling diverse indole-based 4H-chromenes using a low melting mixture of choline chloride and urea is reported. This method makes use of inexpensive and easily accessible starting materials and the reaction medium can be recycled without loss of yield or catalytic activity. Additionally, the reaction medium serves as both a solvent and catalyst, eliminating the need for volatile organic solvents and corrosive catalysts. Preliminary photophysical properties of the synthesized molecules are also investigated. This method, combining a green reaction medium and catalyst-free multicomponent procedure, offers new possibilities for the synthesis of a wide range of indole and chromene based heterocycles under mild conditions.

Solvent and catalyst-free synthesis was employed. Characterization techniques confirmed the successful formation of LPEA by introducing amide and ester groups. LPEA was further enhanced with nano graphene oxide (GO) and applied as nanocomposite corrosion protective coatings (LPEA/GO), showing excellent corrosion resistance performance in 3.5 w/w% NaCl medium. Thermogravimetric analysis exhibited good thermal stability of the coatings up to 200 degrees C.
