Summary: Klebsiella pneumoniae infection leading to acute chorioamnionitis caused intrauterine fetal demise in a case presented here. The mother was admitted at 18 weeks + 1 day for threatened abortion, with IUFD occurring 11 days later. The correct treatment was initiated based on fetal microbiological results, leading to full patient recovery.

Summary: This study investigates the outcomes of pregnancies with preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) before 24 weeks of gestation and identifies predictive factors. The results show a high rate of intrauterine fetal death, preterm birth, and postpartum mortality in these cases. The latency period of more than 2 weeks is associated with live birth.

Summary: This study utilized untargeted metabolomics to identify 13 serum metabolites related to PROM, and established a prediction model consisting of four compounds that could moderately accurately predict PROM events. One of these compounds, Cer 40:0; O2, was defined as a potential biomarker and inhibited the viability of WISH cells.

Summary: Studies comparing retention versus removal of cervical cerclage in women with PPROM showed potential prolongation of latency to delivery with retention, but also potential increase in maternal infectious morbidity. Limited evidence found no significant differences in neonatal outcomes, with most studies limited by retrospective nature and small sample sizes.

Summary: This study compared the impact of oral-only antibiotics treatment with intravenous antibiotics followed by oral antibiotics treatment on pregnancy latency in patients with preterm premature rupture of membranes. The results suggested that there was no significant difference in pregnancy latency between the oral-only antibiotics regimen and the standard regimen.

Summary: Preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) leading to preterm birth has significant implications for neonatal and maternal health. This systematic review examined existing data on biomarkers that can predict the duration of pregnancy following PPROM. Several biomarkers, including IL-6, IL-8, CRP, IL1RA, and others, showed a positive predictive value for timing of delivery. Proinflammatory biomarkers, particularly IL-6 or CRP, were found to be the most correlated with delivery timing, regardless of intrauterine infection.

Summary: Factors predictive of short latency exceeding 48 h after PPROM include the need for tocolysis, a cervical length less than 25 mm at admission, and the existence of anamnios. Outpatient follow-up did not result in increased maternal morbidity or neonatal mortality.

Summary: This retrospective analysis examined risk factors for preterm prelabour rupture of membranes (PPROM) in early pregnancy and developed a predictive model. The study identified several maternal characteristics, placental biochemical and sonographic features that are predictive of PPROM. The researchers suggest that further validation and additional biomarkers may improve the model's performance.

Summary: This study compared the performance of Kisspeptin and beta hCG as biomarkers for miscarriage in the first trimester, finding that Kisspeptin showed better performance, especially in later gestational weeks. The conclusion suggests that Kisspeptin is a promising biomarker for miscarriage, and combining it with beta hCG improves prediction accuracy.

Summary: Perinatal mortality multi-disciplinary team meetings (PM-MDTMs) provide a platform for discussing poor perinatal outcomes and offer important learning opportunities for healthcare professionals. However, attendance and engagement in these meetings at a tertiary maternity hospital is low. Communication, workload, staffing levels, and meeting logistics were identified as barriers to attendance.

Summary: This study highlights that inadequate attendance to antenatal care is influenced by various factors such as sociodemographic factors, difficulties navigating the health system, administrative delays, lack of flexibility and tailored care, constant change of carer, and communication issues, which act as barriers. Conversely, having a positive attitude towards pregnancy, encountering empathetic healthcare professionals, and availing of social support serve as facilitators.

Summary: The objective of this study was to assess the influence of the test-to-delivery interval on the performance of ultrasound and MRI in predicting birthweight. The results showed that MRI performed best in predicting birthweight greater than gestational age if delivery occurred within two weeks of the examination, with a slight decrease thereafter, while ultrasound performance decreased drastically over time.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study aimed to evaluate whether induction of labor is associated with a lower risk of cesarean section in patients with isolated polyhydramnios. The study found that planned induction was associated with a lower rate of cesarean delivery compared to expectant management, but the difference was not statistically significant. Additionally, no differences were observed in maternal or fetal secondary outcomes.
