Summary: This manuscript presents a clinical case of a patient with bilateral cleft lip and palate who underwent tongue graft surgery to repair an oronasal fistula. The multidisciplinary treatment, including orthodontic treatment and aesthetic rehabilitation, significantly improved the patient's smile aesthetics and enhanced their self-perception and confidence.

Summary: This study describes the reconstruction of palatal defects using free flaps and introduces a new modification of tensionless inset of the flap's pedicle. The surgery was performed on 3 cleft patients who had previously undergone multiple unsuccessful attempts at reconstruction. The results demonstrate the feasibility of this repair method, with no additional complications.

Summary: In this study, factors such as body weight, presence of neoplasia at the time of surgery, HPF area, and apex travel distance were associated with flap failure in closure of oronasal communication defects. Further research with larger sample sizes is needed to validate these findings.

Summary: This article presents the current opinion on prevention and management of oronasal fistulas in cleft palate patients. Despite advancements in cleft palate repair, oronasal fistulas remain a common complication, with various techniques available for prevention and management. The review discusses oronasal fistula classifications, repair techniques, tissue adjuncts, and biomaterials used in palate and fistula repair.

Summary: This study evaluates the efficacy of tongue flaps in the reconstruction of complex oronasal fistulas and clarifies the surgical technique. The results show that tongue flaps have a high success rate in repairing complex oronasal fistulas, achieving fistula closure without functional or esthetic impairment of the donor area.

Summary: This study assessed the prevalence of acute and chronic malnutrition in patients with cleft lip and/or palate at the time of surgery, and found that improved nutritional status, as measured by height-for-age, can decrease the risk of fistula formation after cleft palate surgery.

Summary: The study evaluated gene expression profiling of fibroblasts from human alveolar mucosa, buccal attached gingiva, and palatal tissues during early wound healing and correlated it with clinical response. Results showed higher Early wound Healing Score in palatal and buccal tissues compared to alveolar mucosa at 24 hr after surgery. Significant variations were observed in the mRNA expression of key genes related to scar formation, myofibroblast differentiation, and inflammation in different tissues.

Summary: Neural crest-derived cells (NCDCs) exist in adult palate tissues as stem cells and have the potential to differentiate into various cell types during the wound healing process, as demonstrated in this study.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of local biomaterial-based FTY720 delivery in a murine ONF model on early bulk gene expression and neutrophil phenotypic response within the regenerating tissue. Results showed that FTY720 significantly influenced immune cell recruitment and modulation during ONF healing, leading to distinct neutrophil subpopulations in oral mucosal defect tissue.

Summary: Complete wound closure was faster in old rats, with a more dimensional related wound closure observed in young rats. Inflammatory response and myofibroblastic response were significantly delayed and of lower intensity in old rats, although not statistically significant. Reduced initial tissue damage in old rats led to faster clinical wound healing compared to young rats.

Summary: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of using self-curing glass ionomer cement covered by photopolymerizable adhesive as a protective element in oral surgery of dogs. By conducting surgeries on 15 dogs with oral diseases, it was found that this method can effectively treat oronasal fistulae. Therefore, this method can be considered for routine use in oral surgery in dogs.

Summary: This study evaluated the diagnosis, management, and treatment outcomes of children with Langerhan's Cell Histiocytosis (LCH) of the head and neck. The results showed that different presentations of LCH require different treatment approaches, with SS- subgroup being adequately treated via surgical debridement and SS+ and multisystem groups benefitting from early diagnosis and chemotherapy.

Summary: This study examines patient-reported outcome measures of pediatric paradoxical vocal fold motion (PVFM) through a multi-institutional study at various medical facilities in the United States. The results suggest that traditional management tools may not provide long-term benefits, and effective techniques such as counseling and lifestyle management should be incorporated into the long-term management of patients with refractory symptoms.
