Summary: A retrospective analysis found that HCC patients with portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT) had significantly higher preoperative circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts compared to those without PVTT. Patients with CTC counts ≥ 2 had significantly lower overall survival and disease-free survival rates. Therefore, preoperative CTC counts have the potential to be a valuable clinical tool in predicting the prognosis of HCC patients with PVTT.

Summary: The study found that compared to open pancreatoduodenectomy, minimally invasive pancreatoduodenectomy (MIPD) was associated with a higher rate of adequate lymphadenectomy and a shorter length of stay. However, there were no significant differences in the surgical margins status, 90-day mortality, and overall survival between the two approaches.

Summary: Surgical site infection (SSI) is a common postoperative complication, with a significant impact on patient morbidity and mortality. This study found a relationship between the expertise of the surgical first assistant (SFA) and SSI rates, showing that higher expertise in SFAs is associated with lower SSI rates.

Summary: In patients with pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) of appendiceal origin, complete cytoreductive surgery (CCRS) was found to have a better prognosis compared to debulking surgery (DS), with completeness of cytoreduction and histopathologic subtype being identified as two independent prognostic factors for OS.

Summary: This study compared the surgical outcomes of transoral robotic thyroidectomy (TORT) and conventional open thyroidectomy (OT), showing similar results with longer operative time in TORT. TORT can be performed safely in selected patients and may be a suitable operative alternative for those who do not want neck scars.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of surgical margin (SM) on the postoperative prognosis of patients with solitary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) using propensity score matching (PSM). The results showed that SM size did not affect prognosis for patients with negative SMs, while factors such as INR, AST, capsule integrity, microvascular invasion, tumour embolus, and tumour size were independent factors influencing postoperative prognosis for solitary HCC patients.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the early postoperative mortality and major complications between conventional coronary artery bypass grafting with cardiopulmonary bypass (on-pump CABG, ONCAB) and off-pump CABG (OPCAB) performed by experienced surgeons. The results showed that OPCAB patients had lower risks of postoperative stroke, new-onset renal insufficiency, respiratory failure, reoperation for bleeding, and required less ventilator assistance time and intensive care unit time compared to ONCAB patients.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy of combining systemic therapy with transarterial-based therapy versus transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) alone in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with portal vein tumour thrombus (PVTT). The combination therapy group had higher overall survival rates, longer progression-free survival, and more cases of tumor downstaging and pathological complete response after salvage liver resection. The adverse event rates were similar between the two groups. Therefore, combining therapy is a safe and promising treatment option for HCC patients with PVTT.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the outcomes of robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy (RPD) and open pancreaticoduodenectomy (OPD). The results showed that RPD had significantly lower estimated blood loss and shorter postoperative length of hospital stay compared to OPD. There were no significant differences in operative time, major complications, or 90-day mortality rates between the two groups. For patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, RPD had advantages in terms of blood loss and hospital stay compared to OPD.

Summary: This study compared the surgical outcomes, postoperative recovery, and anastomotic leakage between high and low ligation of the inferior mesenteric artery during anterior resection for sigmoid colon or rectal cancer. The results showed that high ligation was associated with a higher incidence of anastomotic leakage for mid- to low-rectum tumors and a higher incidence of complications of grades 1-2.

Summary: There is still no consensus on the anesthesia strategy for endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke caused by large vessel occlusion. This study compared the outcomes of patients undergoing general anesthesia (GA) or local anesthesia (LA) +/- conscious sedation (CS) during the procedure. The results showed that LA +/- CS may provide better outcomes for patients with AIS-LVO.

Summary: The study assessed the prognostic significance of preoperative NPS in VATS lobectomy patients and found a significant association between NPS and unfavorable OS and DFS of NSCLC. NPS demonstrated the best discriminatory power for predicting both OS and DFS, and remained validated after PSM analysis, indicating that it could serve as an independent prognostic indicator for both outcomes.
