Summary: The study aimed to compare the clinical effect of Salvadora persica extract mouthwash and chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash for anti-plaque and anti-gingivitis functions. The results showed that Salvadora persica extract mouthwash can significantly reduce plaque and gingival inflammation, although its effectiveness is inferior to chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash.

Summary: This study investigated the potential application of the hyperlight fluid fusion essential complex in dental plaque control and evaluated the effectiveness of new agents for preventing and treating gingivitis. The study involved two groups, one using 0.12% chlorhexidine mouth rinse and the other using a solution based on hyper-harmonized hydroxylated fullerene water complex (3HFWC). Both groups showed a significant reduction in bacterial counts, with the control group showing a greater reduction. However, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups. The results suggest that 3HFWC solution could be a suitable addition to the growing problem of preventing and treating gingivitis and periodontitis.

Summary: Prenatal Vitamin D levels may have an impact on dental health outcomes in children. The association between Vitamin D levels and enamel defects and tooth erosion varied across different studies. Vitamin D insufficiency was identified as a significant risk factor for enamel defects, while high prenatal Vitamin D levels indicated a protective effect against Hypomineralized Second Primary Molars and Molar Incisor Hypomineralization. However, there were variations in the assessment and prevalence of Vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency, and more research is needed to determine the optimal Vitamin D intake during pregnancy.

Summary: This systematic review aimed to evaluate the efficacy of different toothbrush bristle stiffness and end-shape on interproximal plaque and gingival inflammation reduction. Results showed that soft tapered-tip bristle toothbrushes demonstrated greater reduction in plaque and gingivitis compared to soft end-rounded bristle toothbrushes. Additionally, medium or hard toothbrushes may have better results in noninterproximal cleaners.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the antiplaque effect of different mouthwashes for gingivitis in adolescence. The results showed that essential oil mouthwash, as a chemical adjunct to mechanical plaque control, was more effective than chlorhexidine mouthwash without adverse effects, although its continuous use is limited.

Summary: This study assessed tooth discoloration in patients <8 years old after exposure to tigecycline, a derivative of tetracycline. It found that two patients developed yellow discoloration. However, due to the small sample size and inadequate follow-up period, the incidence and extent of tigecycline-associated dental adverse events remain unclear.

Summary: This study evaluated proteomic changes induced by CHX and CHX+ADS in supragingival dental sites susceptible to discoloration effects. The results showed that long-term use of CHX led to changes in the TSCM proteome, but these changes were reduced when using CHX+ADS. The ADS limited TSCM formation and the antiseptic effect of CHX reduced its impact on bacterial cell permeability, while Maillard's reaction produced molecules that could facilitate bacterial adhesion.

Summary: During the COVID-19 epidemic in Italy in March and April 2020, dental activities were significantly reduced and limited to urgent treatments. A survey of dental professionals found that a majority of dentists used additional personal protective equipment, although some reported difficulty in obtaining necessary equipment. Following the peak of the epidemic, it is expected that there will be significant changes in dental activities before full restart.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of rehabilitation on oral-health-related quality of life and systemic health in edentulous patients with stage IV periodontitis. The results show that oral rehabilitation can significantly improve OHRQoL in patients with periodontal diseases, with potential effects on systemic health. However, further research is needed to determine if these findings apply to patients with severe periodontitis.

Summary: This study evaluated outcome measures, assessment methods, and analysis in clinical studies on the prevention and management of peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis. The results showed that probing pocket depth (PPD) and bleeding/suppuration on probing (BOP) were commonly reported measures, while composite outcomes, adverse events, and patient-reported outcomes were less frequently described.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the effects of introducing an electric toothbrush and intensive oral hygiene maneuver adaptation (OHI) versus routine habits (no-OHI) on the level of inflammatory markers, oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), and gingival parameters in patients with generalized gingivitis. The results showed that after 1 month, the OHI group had a significant reduction in gingival inflammation and plaque levels, as well as improvements in systemic inflammatory markers and OHRQoL compared to the no-OHI group.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the levels of inflammatory markers and endothelial function in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients after Q-SRP and FM-SRP treatments. The results showed that FM-SRP led to a significant increase in CRP and a decrease in FMD at Day 1 compared to Q-SRP. The improvement in HbA1c levels at Day 90 was significantly better in the Q-SRP group. Therefore, FM-SRP may have adverse effects on endothelial function and HbA1c levels in diabetes patients.

Summary: This study evaluated the association between leisure-time/occupational physical activity (LTPA/OPA) and periodontitis in a nationally representative sample of the U.S. population. The results showed that high-intensity LTPA was a protective indicator for periodontitis, while high-intensity OPA was a significant risk indicator. The combination of low-intensity LTPA and high-intensity OPA had a cumulative independent association with periodontitis.

Summary: To improve evidence-based implant dentistry and quality of care, this study aimed to develop a core outcome set and measurements for implant dentistry clinical trials. Through systematic reviews, patient focus groups, and expert discussions, 13 mandatory outcome domains were identified, including pathophysiology, implant/prosthesis lifespan, life impact, and access to care. These domains captured both the benefits and harms of therapy and will contribute to improving evidence-informed implant dentistry and quality of care.

Summary: The study found that in systemically healthy humans with peri-implant mucositis, patient-performed or administered adjunctive measures can significantly reduce bleeding on probing when combined with submarginal instrumentation. The greatest reductions in bleeding were achieved with antiseptics, followed by probiotics and systemic antibiotics. However, complete disease resolution was rarely reported.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between lifestyle behaviors and clinical periodontal outcomes after Steps 1/2 of periodontal therapy. 120 subjects with untreated Stage II/III periodontitis participated in the study. The results showed that poor sleep quality, smoking, and excessive alcohol use were associated with a lower chance of achieving the endpoint of therapy. In addition, subjects with unhealthy lifestyles had higher proportions of residual deep periodontal pockets and lower odds of achieving the endpoint of therapy at re-evaluation.

Summary: This study retrospectively evaluated the radiographic signs of MRONJ on panoramic radiography to describe the characteristics of the lesions at different stages of the disease. A weak relationship between radiographic signs and disease stage was observed, with mandibular canal enhancement being associated with the advanced disease stage. The distribution of the different radiographic features was not influenced by the underlying disease treated with antiresorptive drugs. Panoramic radiography appears to be a valid support in the assessment of MRONJ lesions.
