Objective: The pathophysiology of urethral stricture and its recurrence remains vague and one of the important causes is progressive inflammation. It has been shown in recent years that the neutrophil / lymphocyte ratio is a marker of systemic inflammation and is associated with prognosis in many cardiovascular diseases, malignancies and chronic inflammatory diseases. We assessed simple systemic inflammation markers preoperatively and surgical techniques for urethral stricture recurrence after urethroplasty. Patients and Methods: After exclusion criteria applied, a total of 117 male cases operated with urethroplasty in our clinic between January 2012 and June 2017 were included in the study and analyzed retrospectively. Localization and length of the strictures of the patients, neutrophil counts and percent-ages, lymphocyte counts and percentages, and neutrophil / lymphocyte ratios in preoperative peripheral blood samples were statistically analyzed. Recurrent stricture during first 12 months follow-up after the surgery has been assessed as recurrence. Results: The mean age of the patients was 54.12 +/- 16.35 and the mean urethral stricture length was 3.44 +/- 1.83 cm. Recurrence was observed in 30.1% of cases who received buccal graft, 30% in penile skin applied cases and 26.1% of cases treated with end-to-end anastomosis and there was no statistically significant difference between neutrophil, lymphocyte, neutrophil / lymphocyte ratio and average stricture segment length between recurrent and non-recurrent cases (p > 0.005). Conclusions: We consider that neutrophil, lymphocyte counts and their ratio prior to urethroplasty and the technique performed are not parameters that can be used to predict stricture recurrence. Prospective and randomized new trials with larger patient populations are needed to make more accurate judgments about the role of these inflammatory parameters.

Systemic immune-inflammation index, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio and platelet-lymphocyte ratio are predictors of sperm presence in microdissection testicular sperm extraction

Yavuz Bastug, Emre Tokuc, Nesrin Bastug, Ilker Artuk, Cagatay Tosun, Halime Sena Cakiroglu, Serdar Aykan

Summary: This study evaluated the value of haematologic inflammatory parameters in predicting sperm retrieval rates during micro-TESE. The results showed that neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio and systemic immune-inflammation index were more powerful predictors than platelet-lymphocyte ratio. Using these parameters improved the predictive value of the baseline model.

Effect of endoscopic urethral procedures applied after robotic radical prostatectomy on urinary incontinence: A prospective cohort pilot study

Selman Unal, Musab Ali Kutluhan, Emrah Okulu, Asim Ozayar, Onder Kayigil

Summary: This study investigated whether there is a change in urinary incontinence (UI) level in patients who underwent endoscopic urethral procedures (EUP) after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP), and whether this change is affected by the duration of the procedure and the type of endoscopic device used. The results showed a significant increase in UI level in the group that used rigid cystoscopy, while no significant increase was observed in the groups that used flexible cystoscopy and semi-rigid ureterorenoscopy. There was no significant correlation between increased operation time and UI level.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate whether semen parameters are changed with sexual arousal. The study found that watching sexual stimulation videos during a 3-day abstinence period did not affect semen parameters, except for semen volume and total motile sperm count.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive summary of the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up process of 245 patients who underwent open urethroplasty for urethral stricture in a tertiary referral center over a 13-year period. The results show that urethroplasty techniques are the most successful treatment option for urethral stricture, and the preoperative diagnosis and surgical experience are crucial for maximizing the patient's benefit.

Predictive value of systemic immune-inflammation index in recurrent urethral strictures

Emrah Ozsoy, Musab Ali Kutluhan, Emre Tokuc, Ilker Artuk, Ridvan Kayar, Mehmet Akyuz, Metin Ishak Ozturk

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the predictive value of systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) in the recurrence of urethral stricture. The results showed significant differences in SII values and albumin levels between the recurrence and non-recurrence groups. Using a cutoff value of 252 for SII, the recurrence risk could be predicted with moderate accuracy. The study suggests that open urethroplasty may be more suitable for patients with high SII values to improve surgical success rates.

Characteristics of renal oncocytomas and clinical novelties: Single center experience of 17 years

Omer Yuksel, Gulistan Gumrukcu, Emre Tokuc, Osman Bilen, Levent Verim

Summary: This study retrospectively assessed the characteristics and clinical outcomes of renal oncocytomas in our institution over the past 17 years. Among 791 patients who underwent nephrectomy, 55 were diagnosed with oncocytoma. The follow-up results showed no recurrence or death due to oncocytoma during an average follow-up period of 76 months.

Do testosterone boosters really increase serum total testosterone? A systematic review

Afonso Morgado, Georgios Tsampoukas, Ioannis Sokolakis, Nadja Schoentgen, Ahmet Urkmez, Selcuk Sarikaya

Summary: Testosterone boosters are heavily marketed to men with claims to increase testosterone, but most fail to do so. Only a few, such as beta-hydroxy beta-methylbutyrate and betaine, are effective for male athletes. Eurycoma longifolia, a blend of Punica granatum fruit rind and Theobroma cacao seed extracts (Tesnor & TRADE;) and purified Shilajit extract (PrimaVie & TRADE;) may be effective for men with late-onset hypogonadism, while Eurycoma longifolia and Withania somnifera may be effective for healthy men. A non-hormonal aromatase inhibitor (Novadex XT & TRADE;) may be effective for male athletes.
