Vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) is considered as a promising cathode material for advanced lithium-ion batteries owing to its high specific capacity. Herein, we report a structural design and engineering of one-dimensional rod-like V2O5 by using polyphenol-grafted collagen fiber as unique biotemplate. The novel 1D rod-like structure shortens the transfer pathway of electrons and ions. Moreover, the oxygen vacancies generated by low valance state vanadium (V4+) would facilitate the lithium-ion diffusion. As a result, the 1D rod-like V2O5 delivers high specific capacity (255 mAh/g at 0.1C) and excellent rate capability (100 mAh/g at 10 C). This work develops a facile and controllable method to engineer 1D rod-like V2O5-based cathode for efficient lithium storage. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
