Purpose: To evaluate whether treatment with new complete dentures improves quality of life in elderly patients. Materials and Methods: A literature search was conducted in the MEDLINE/PubMed, Scopus, LILACS, SciELO, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases using specific keywords for relevant articles published up to March 2018. Three reviewers obtained the data and compared the results from reports that evaluated denture wearers 60 years of age or older whose old dentures were replaced with new ones. Results and Conclusion: Of 282 published studies, 7 met the inclusion criteria (5 evaluated quality of life before and after treatment using the Oral Health Impact Profile, 1 using the Oral Impacts by Daily Performance, and 1 using the Geriatric Oral Health Assessment Index). The articles showed a similar increase in quality of life after elderly patients were treated with new complete dentures; however, the limited methodologic quality in the reported and analyzed studies underscores the need for more robust controlled investigations to strengthen the current body of evidence, which is limited.

Accuracy of CAD -CAM systems for removable partial denture framework fabrication: A systematic review

Ana Larisse Carneiro Pereira, Annie Karoline Bezerra de Medeiros, Kaiza de Sousa Santos, Erika Oliveira de Almeida, Gustavo Augusto Seabra Barbosa, Adriana da Fonte Porto Carreiro

Summary: CAD-CAM systems can accurately manufacture RPD frameworks, with digital techniques showing better accuracy compared to traditional methods. Material influences the fit of frameworks, with PEEK material showing superior performance. The results indicate that digital techniques for RPD frameworks are reliable.

Influence of implant position on the accuracy of intraoral scanning in fully edentulous arches: A systematic review

Ana Larisse Carneiro Pereira, Adriana da Fonte Porto Carreiro, Vitoria Ramos Medeiros

Summary: This study aimed to investigate how implant position affects the intraoral scanning accuracy of arches receiving complete-arch implant-supported fixed dental prostheses. The results suggest that digital scanning is reliable but caution is needed in patients with implant angles greater than 15 degrees. Further research is needed to explore the association between implant angulation and clinical factors.

Factors that influence the accuracy of intraoral scanning of total edentulous arches rehabilitated with multiple implants: A systematic review

Ana Larisse Carneiro Pereira, Miria Rafaelli Souza Curinga, Henrique Vieira Melo Segundo, Adriana da Fonte Porto Carreiro

Summary: The purpose of this systematic review was to identify factors that may affect the accuracy of intraoral scanning for completely edentulous arches. After screening 11,498 studies, 12 studies were selected and the factors found to influence accuracy included the type of intraoral scanner, scanning technique, environmental conditions, angle and distance between implants, and material of scan bodies. The scanners from Carestream Dental and TRIOS, 3Shape showed the best results.

Incidence and risk factors for non-adaptation of new mandibular complete dentures: a clinical trial

Anne Kaline Claudino Ribeiro, Aretha Heitor Verissimo, Annie Karoline Bezerra de Medeiros, Rachel Gomes Cardoso, Laercio Almeida de Melo, Adriana da Fonte Porto Carreiro

Summary: The study found that the incidence of non-adaptation of mandibular complete dentures was higher after 3 months, with a decrease after 6 months. Sociodemographic variables did not influence adaptation. After 3 months, lack of previous experience, traumatic ulcers, and reduced mandibular ridges hindered adaptation to mandibular complete dentures for patients. After 6 months, only ulcerative lesions and non-regular denture wear were risk factors for non-adaptation.

Are neck pain, disability, and deep neck flexor performance the same for the different types of temporomandibular disorders?

Luiz Felipe Tavares, Inae Caroline Gadotti, Bruna Guimaraes Carvalho, Ana Paula Mendonca Fernandes, Jade Padilha Silva, Gustavo Augusto Seabra Barbosa, Erika Oliveira Almeida, Karyna Figueiredo Ribeiro

Summary: This study evaluated neck pain, disability, and deep neck flexor (DNF) performance in individuals with temporomandibular disorders (TMD). The results showed that the intensity of neck pain and neck disability differed according to the subtype of TMD, but there were no differences in DNF performance.

Physical, Mechanical, and Anti-Biofilm Formation Properties of CAD-CAM Milled or 3D Printed Denture Base Resins: In Vitro Analysis

Rodrigo Falcao Carvalho Porto de Freitas, Simone Duarte, Sabrina Feitosa, Vinicius Dutra, Wei-Shao Lin, Beatriz Helena Dias Panariello, Adriana da Fonte Porto Carreiro

Summary: This study compared the surface characteristics, mechanical properties, and anti-biofilm formation ability of CAD-CAM PMMA polymer, 3D printed resin, and conventional heat polymerized denture base resins. The results showed that CAD-CAM PMMA had similar surface and mechanical properties to conventional resins and demonstrated improved behavior in preventing C. albicans adhesion. However, 3D printed resin had higher surface roughness and lower mini-flexural strength.

Ana Larisse Carneiro Pereira, Vitoria Ramos Medeiros, Maria de Fatima Trindade Pinto Campos, Annie Karoline Bezerra de Medeiros, Burak Yilmaz, Adriana da Fonte Porto Carreiro

Summary: This study compared the effect of conventional and digital impressions on the time from impressions to the generation of working casts of mandibular implant-supported fixed complete-arch frameworks and patient satisfaction. The results showed that digital impressions required shorter chair time and had higher patient acceptance than conventional impressions.
