Up to one-third of patients selected by current guidelines do not respond to cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), the aim of this study was to find out novel analytical approaches to improve pre-implantation CRT response prediction. Among 31 pre-implantation features of clinical, laboratory, electrocardiography (ECG), and echocardiography variables in a consecutive cohort of patients receiving a first-time CRT device (CRT-pacemaker or CRT-defibrillator), we developed a machine learning (ML) model with three classification algorithms (support vector machines (SVM), K nearest neighbors, and random subspaces) with the best features combination to predict CRT response. Three categorical variables, left bundle branch block (LBBB), nonischemic cardiomyopathy, and female gender, were independently associated with CRT responses. Among continuous variables, including septal wall thickness, posterior wall thickness, and relative wall thickness (RWT), could regularize ECG QRS duration (QRSd) and significantly enhance the correlation between QRSd and CRT response. The 3 ML algorithms in a total of 38 features combinations constantly recognized that the features combined with QRSd/RWT outperformed the combinations without it. For each of three algorithms, the triplet feature combination of QRSd/RWT, LBBB, and nonischemic cardiomyopathy repeatedly increased the classification rate more than 8%. The best performance for CRT response prediction occurred with SVM model, which proposed actual QRSd/RWT values that favored CRT responses in patients both with and without LBBB. Lower QRSd/RWT values were required for CRT responses in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy compared to those with non-ischemic cardiomyopathy. ML from ventricular remodeling characteristics-regularized QRSd improves CRT response prediction.

Badaruddin Sahito, Sheikh Muhammad Ebad Ali, Sofia Fatima Farooqui, Awais Abro, Javed Ahmed, Younis

Summary: This retrospective comparative study examined the effects of neoadjuvant denosumab on the functional outcomes, recurrence rate, and complications in patients who underwent arthrodesis of the shoulder after resection of grade III giant cell tumors (GCT) of the proximal humerus. The study found no significant differences between the denosumab and non-denosumab groups in terms of functional outcomes, recurrence, and complications. However, patients in the denosumab group had lower pain scores at 6 weeks postoperatively.

Summary: This study aimed to incorporate barley flour into whole wheat flour to develop chapatti. Different samples of flour blend were made by adding barley at different rates, and their proximate analyses and quality variables were determined. The results showed that the addition of barley increased protein, ash, energy, and beta-glucan contents, while decreasing gluten, carbohydrates, and phytates. Similar trends were observed in the characteristics of chapatti. Sensory evaluation indicated that chapatti with 20% barley incorporation had good nutritional quality and acceptability.

Summary: In this study, M-type hexaferrites Ba0.5Ca0.5ZnxZrxFe12-2xO19 were fabricated using the sol-gel technique. The exchange of Fe3+ ions by Zn2+-Zr4+ ions was confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction patterns. The lattice parameters 'a' and 'c' increased as the doping level increased. Scanning electron microscopy images showed a slight decrease in grain size with doping. The highest saturation magnetization was observed for the x = 0.2 configuration. The coercivity decreased significantly with Zn2+-Zr4+ doping. Mossbauer spectra revealed the preferential site occupancy by dopant ions and the ionic state of Fe-ions.

Highly stable and uniform colloidal silver quantum dots stabilized with (N,S,O) donor ligand: Selective sensing of Hg(II)/Cu(II) and I- ions and reduction of nitro-aromatics in water

Nisha Yadav, Shivani Shiva, Preeti Oswal, Arun Kumar, Ajai Kumar Singh, Balvinder Singh, Bidhan Pandit, Jahangeer Ahmed, Gyandshwar Kumar Rao

Summary: The paper presented the role of ligands in stabilizing colloidal silver-quantum dots (Ag-QDs) and their applications in colorimetric detection of metal ions/anions. The Ag-QDs were also used for reducing nitroaromatics and showed selective colorimetric sensing of Hg(II)/Cu(II) and I- ions. The results suggest that the ligands with donor atoms effectively stabilize the Ag-QDs and the pendant alkyl chain governs their dispersion, while the colorimetric change is attributed to ion-mediated aggregation of QDs.

Pargam Vashishtha, Manoj Kumar, Pukhraj Prajapat, Jahangeer Ahmed, Vidya Nand Singh, Govind Gupta

Summary: By utilizing ultraviolet-responsive gallium nitride (GaN) and infrared-activated tin selenide (SnSe), a broadband heterojunction-based optical detector was fabricated, combining the detection capabilities of GaN in the ultraviolet to visible range and SnSe in the visible to shortwave-infrared range. The detector exhibited high responsivity, low dark current, and edge contact geometry for direct access to the heterostructure interface of both materials. The device showed excellent performance across the ultraviolet-C to shortwave-infrared region, with a maximum responsivity of 128 AW-1, a noise equivalent power of 5.2 x 10-14 WHz- 1/2, and a quantum efficiency of 5 x 104% for ultraviolet illumination, and a maximum responsivity of 6.06 AW-1 and noise equivalent power of 1 x 10-12 WHz- 1 for infrared illumination. This research opens up new possibilities for wideband detection in optoelectronic applications utilizing heterostructure-based devices.
