Based on the particle flow theory and the PFC2D program, a plane strain model of rock mass that can better reflect the brittleness and that can consider the meso-fracturing effect is constructed, and the generation and evolution of the zonal disintegration phenomenon are discussed in detail from a macro and meso perspective. The simulation results are in good agreement with the field test and the calculation results of the non-Euclidean model. The numerical results show that the zonal disintegration of the brittle rock mass is more regular, and the existence of joints and an initial stress greater than the compressive strength of the rock mass are necessary conditions for zonal disintegration. Through sensitivity analysis, the effect of the initial stress, lateral pressure coefficient and joint friction coefficient on the phenomenon of zonal disintegration are determined.
