Summary: Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is traditionally defined by a mix of squamoid, intermediate, and mucous cells, but recent studies have found unique cases lacking immunoreactivity for squamous markers despite MAML2 fusions. This study characterizes these tumors and identifies the importance of MAML2 analysis in diagnosing MEC without squamoid cells.

Summary: Surgical resection and adjuvant radiation therapy for high-grade or advanced-stage parotid gland mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) result in excellent survival rates, regardless of clinical stage or pathological grade.

Summary: The study investigated the histological diversity of salivary mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC), its clinicopathological features, and its associations with CRTC1/3-MAML2 fusions. The research found that MEC exhibits various histological variants and that the CRTC1/3-MAML2 fusion may be associated with the clinicopathological features of MEC.

Summary: We report a series of trabecular variants of mucopidermoid carcinomas (MECs) with unique histological and molecular features. These variants have characteristics different from known disease entities and may result in misdiagnosis. The tumors primarily occur in middle-aged females and are commonly located in the parotid gland and oral cavity. No recurrences or deaths were observed during the follow-up period.

Summary: Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is a common salivary gland tumor, and there is no established effective treatment strategy other than surgical resection. This study shows that PCP4/PEP19 and HER2 may play important roles in the pathogenesis and progression of MEC.

Summary: Lower T or N classification and highly differentiated disease were associated with a significantly lower risk of lung metastases in patients with major salivary gland mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MaSG-MEC). Elderly Caucasian male patients with poorly differentiated disease, multiple sites of metastases and no surgical therapy to primary tumor were more likely to reduce life expectancy.

Summary: This study provides direct evidence that CRTC1-MAML2 is a key driver for MEC development and maintenance. Combination therapy targeting aberrant p16-CDK4/6-RB signaling and CRTC1-MAML2 fusion-activated AREG/EGFR signaling with the respective CDK4/6 inhibitor Palbociclib and EGFR inhibitor Erlotinib produced enhanced antitumor responses in vitro and in vivo, offering a potential viable strategy for patients with MEC.

Summary: This study aimed to differentiate low-grade and high-grade mucoepidermoid carcinomas (MEC) using Haralick texture analysis on CT imaging. High-grade MEC tended to exhibit low energy, high correlation texture, and surface irregularity. Together, these features may help predict high-grade pathology in MECs.

Summary: Salivary gland carcinomas (SGC) are histologically diverse cancers, and next-generation sequencing (NGS) is used to identify key molecular targets. This study found common mutations and potential predictive markers for immunotherapy in SGC through comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP).

Summary: This report presents 3 cases of female breast masses, initially diagnosed as benign nodules by ultrasound. After pathological diagnosis, all 3 cases were found to be mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the breast, with 2 cases being low grade and 1 case being medium grade. The patients underwent extensive breast resection and lymph node dissection, and during follow-up, no recurrence or metastasis was observed.

Summary: This study investigated the clinical, histopathologic, and molecular features of thymic mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) in 20 cases. The study found that the fusion gene CRTC1-MAML2 was associated with lower stage, and the findings are expected to contribute to the management of this rare tumor.

Summary: Granular cell tumors (GCTs) are rare tumors that often occur in the oral cavity. This case report presents a rare occurrence of a GCT near the trachea, where a 42-year-old man presented with a motor vehicle accident and was found to have a soft tissue mass in the retrotracheal area. Excision of the tumor confirmed it to be a GCT.

Summary: Actinomycosis is a rare infection that affects the larynx or pharynx. This study reviewed three cases and performed a literature review to better understand the surgical management, antibiotic therapy, risk factors, and incidence of recurrence or complications. The results showed an increased prevalence of pharyngolaryngeal actinomycosis in head and neck cancer patients. Extended antibiotic therapy showed favorable responses, and aggressive surgical management was generally not required.
