Summary: The study found that different surface treatments have an impact on the bond strength of single-lap-joint specimens, with PAA treatment significantly improving the bond strength. Additionally, bond strength is not only determined by surface roughness value or wettability, but also by surface characteristics such as peak density, nano-scale pores, and texture direction.

Summary: The evolution of the mixed mode I+II fracture envelope of a structural epoxy adhesive under different temperatures was investigated using the Arcan device. It was found that the critical strain energy release rate decreased with the increase of temperature, which was attributed to the energy intake of the adhesive material.

Summary: The chemical bonding and molecular deformation in thermoplastic adhesive bonding play important roles in adhesive properties. Investigating the correlation between molecular deformation and strength change is essential. The behavior at high temperatures is crucial due to different coefficients of thermal expansion in the materials. The study found that adhesive type affects the high-temperature performance, with different trends in strength change at different temperatures. The molecular deformation of the interphase follows the same trend as the strength.

Summary: This study compared the effects of co-bonding and cold-bonding on the CFRP laminate-aluminum connection and found that cold-bonding resulted in composite delamination in lap-shear tests, while co-bonding led to cohesive failure. The tensile and Mode I fracture tests showed that the failure path was predominantly in the composite.

Summary: This study used a response surface-designed experiment approach to determine the optimal settings of laser treatment for surface preparation of CFRP prior to bonding. The effects of power, pitch, and lateral overlap on the tensile shear strength of adhesive bonded joints were investigated using a nanosecond pulsed Ytterbium-doped-fiber laser source and a scanning system. The results were modeled using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) to identify the best performance parameters and predict the behavior of joints for untested parameter settings.

Summary: The study demonstrated that dielectric barrier discharge plasma treatment can enhance the bonding performance of beech wood with urea-formaldehyde adhesive, although the wettability slightly diminishes over time. Aging of the wood has a negative impact on the shear strength of lap joints, while plasma pre-treatment has a positive effect.
