Summary: This study investigated the in vivo metabolism of polyethylene glycol hydrogels using radioactively labeled substances. The hydrogel was mainly excreted through urine and exhibited highest distribution in the kidney. The radioactivity recovery rates in blood were low. The study provides insights into the metabolism of the hydrogel in vivo.

Summary: Injectable conductive hydrogels (ICHs) with tunable degradability have been developed as implantable bioelectrodes. ICHs exhibit good conductivity, tissue compatibility, and significantly improved sensitivity in electromyography signals compared to skin electrodes and nonconductive hydrogel electrodes. This study demonstrates the great potential of ICHs to develop various bioelectronic devices.

Summary: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is an effective treatment for early esophageal cancer and precancerous lesions, but it often leads to postoperative esophageal stricture. This study developed a tetra-armed poly(ethylene glycol) (Tetra-PEG) hydrogel and demonstrated its efficacy in preventing ESD-induced stricture in a porcine model. The Tetra-PEG hydrogel exhibited great biocompatibility, moisture retention, tissue adhesion, and mechanical strength. Compared to the control group, the Tetra-PEG hydrogel promoted early esophageal ulcer healing by enhancing epithelium regeneration, reducing inflammation, and fibrosis through the TGF-β/Smad2 signaling pathway.

Summary: This article studies the relationship between the properties of PS-PEG hydrogels and their anti-biofouling behavior, examining the adhesion behavior of marine bacteria and benthic diatom on PS-PEG hydrogels with different polystyrene microspheres content. It concludes that the addition of polystyrene microspheres significantly enhances the anti-biofouling performance of PS-PEG hydrogels.

Summary: By introducing Poly(amidoamine) dendrimers into Tetra-PEG hydrogels via a Schiff base reaction, PAMAM-Tetra-PEG hydrogels were formed with mechanical properties dependent on the generation of PAMAM. Swelling properties were affected by factors such as 4arm-PEG molecular weight and PAMAM generation, showing potential as dual-function delivery systems with dual-embedding capacity for both hydrophilic and hydrophobic substances.

Summary: Standalone ring nucleases are CRISPR ancillary proteins that downregulate the immune response of Type III CRISPR-Cas systems. A study on Sulfolobus islandicus genome identified two genes coding for different length polypeptides with this function. The analysis of one of these polypeptides revealed its structure and the key role it plays in the cleavage process.

Summary: A porous graphitic carbon nitride/graphene oxide hydrogel microsphere (CN/GO/SA) was synthesized and used to degrade AFB(1) in peanut oil. The introduction of GO significantly improved the adsorption capacity and visible light activity of photocatalysts. CN/GO/SA showed excellent cycle stability, and the degradation rate of AFB1 in peanut oil remained above 95% after five-time recycling.

Summary: In this study, porous poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) films were prepared using a low-cost approach with poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and solution casting. The crystallization conditions were adjusted to control the pore size and structure of the PLLA films. Higher crystallization temperatures resulted in larger pores and slower degradation rates, indicating potential applications in drug delivery and tissue engineering.

Summary: Increased extracellular matrix (ECM) density in the tumor microenvironment influences tumor progression, and the effect varies between different tumor cell lines of epithelial and mesenchymal origin. Epithelial origin cell line proliferates more and forms more mature focal complexes in response to an increase in matrix adhesion sites, while mesenchymal origin cell line proliferates more in 2D culture but less in 3D culture, invades less, and forms more mature focal complexes in response to an increase in matrix stiffness.
