Summary: This study analyzed gallbladder specimens from 2577 living liver donors and found that the most common histopathological findings were normal structure, chronic cholecystitis, adenomyomatosis, and papillary hyperplasia, while the most common pathologic findings in the gallbladder lumen were cholesterolosis, cholelithiasis, cholesterol polyp, and noncholesterol polyp. The diameter and size of the gallbladder were larger in men, whereas the incidence of cholesterolosis and cholelithiasis was higher in women.

Summary: This study investigated the microbial pattern and predictors of short-term outcomes in patients with SBP. The prevalence of classic SBP was similar to CNNA. Gram-negative bacillus (GNB) was more prevalent than Gram-positive bacteria (GPC), with E. coli being the most common species. The percentage of ESBL strain in culture-positive patients was 10.9%. SBP types, Gram stain result, and ESBL strain did not affect survival, while bacteremia, HRS, and serum Cr independently predicted short-term mortality in patients with SBP.

Summary: The primates in the rainforest of Manaus, Brazil are potential reservoirs of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. The use of PCR amplification of filarial sequences has shown that biting insects in the region have fed on non-human primates, indicating their potential role as disease vectors. However, the lack of primate-derived filarial parasite reference sequences limits the broader use of this method.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the microbial spectrum and sensitivity patterns in ascitic fluid of cirrhotic patients with spontaneous bacterial peritonitis. The results showed that Escherichia coli was the most common organism, and ceftazidime was the most sensitive antibiotic in the study.
