Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the postharvest longevity of cut leaves of Viola odorata and determine the effects of plant preservatives on their longevity. The results showed that conditioning in gibberellic acid and 8-hydroxyquinoline sulphate, as well as the maintenance in 8-hydroxyquinoline sulphate, reduced the vase life of cut V. odorata leaves. Conditioning in 100 mg.dm(-3) gibberellic acid followed by water treatment had the best impact on the Soil Plant Analysis Development value of the leaves.

Summary: The leaf chlorophyll content is an important vegetation parameter in carbon cycle modeling and agricultural monitoring. The study proposes a new red-edge chlorophyll index, termed chlorophyll sensitive index (CSI), to decouple the effects of canopy and soil background. Sensitivity analyses and validation results show that the CSI is resistant to variations in canopy structure and soil background, and it improves the accuracy of chlorophyll content retrieval compared to existing methods.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of anticipated future elevated CO2 on growth, physiology, and nutrient uptake in two widely cultivated mulberry varieties in southwest China. The results showed that elevated CO2 significantly increased plant growth but decreased chlorophyll concentrations and photosynthetic rates, while also leading to lower leaf N and P concentrations. Nutrient dilution and changes in plant demand were identified as key factors driving the reduction of leaf N and P under elevated CO2 conditions.

Summary: This study examined the effects of insects and pathogens on plant photosynthesis using a meta-analysis approach. The results showed that biotic disturbance significantly decreased photosynthetic rate and affected various parameters and chlorophyll fluorescence properties. Pathogens had a greater impact on photosynthesis than insects. Crop plants were more sensitive to biotic disturbance, posing challenges to agricultural systems in the future.

Summary: This study proposes a refined data assimilation scheme to retrieve daily Vcmax using remotely sensed solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) and leaf chlorophyll content (LCC) data. The spatial distribution of Vcmax depends on the spatial distribution of biomes, along with air temperature and absorbed photosynthetically active radiation (APAR). Vcmax25, which is more closely related to the Rubisco content, also has considerable spatiotemporal variations.

Summary: The KNOX gene plays crucial roles in plant development, and this study identified 19 KNOX gene members in kiwifruit. One of the genes, AcKNOX11, is selectively expressed in flower buds and shoots, and its expression can be induced by ABA and melatonin. Functional analysis revealed that AcKNOX11 delays flowering, reduces plant height, alters leaf shape, and inhibits seed germination through ABA-melatonin interaction.

Summary: Bagging is a crucial cultivation measure that affects the quality of peach fruit by regulating exposure to light. This study investigated the effects of bagging on the content of phenolic compounds in peach fruit and identified the most sensitive compounds to bagging treatment. The study also explored the regulatory role of bagging on phenolic synthetic-related genes. The results showed that bagging affected the accumulation of different phenolics in different peach cultivars and light intensity played a significant role in the accumulation of anthocyanins and other phenolic substances in peach fruit. Additionally, the expression of structural genes and transcription factors related to phenolic synthesis was regulated by bagging and light conditions. These findings provide a foundation for understanding the regulation mechanism of light on the synthesis of phenolic compounds in peach fruit.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of water stress on cocoa trees and found that they are highly sensitive to water stress, with different genotypes exhibiting varied responses. Potassium application did not mitigate the negative effects of water stress. There was significant variation among genotypes in terms of leaf and crown traits, and positive interactions between genotype and irrigation were observed. These findings provide insights into the acclimation strategies of cocoa trees and can be useful for selecting drought-tolerant genotypes.
