Summary: Chronic inflammation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) can lead to autonomic dysfunction, increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Exercise has been shown to improve autonomic nervous system (ANS) activity, particularly the parasympathetic component, in RA patients, which can help reduce the risk of CVD. Factors such as blood pressure response, low BMI, and muscular strength are important predictors of changes in heart rate recovery (HRR) in RA patients undergoing physical activity programs.

Summary: The study found that higher disease activity and elevated levels of cytokines/chemokines are associated with a higher risk of incident diabetes mellitus in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Factors such as high DAS28-CRP, obese BMI, older age, and male sex were associated with increased risk for incident diabetes mellitus.

Summary: Different subsets of CD8+ T cells are associated with clinical features and serological parameters in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Naive CD8+ T cells are negatively correlated with disease activity, while CD8+ CD28-T cells and CD8+ CD27-T cells are positively correlated with disease activity. Activated CD8+ T cells and TCR gamma E+ CD8+ T cells may be involved in inflammation and lipid metabolism in RA.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) in antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) patients and its associations with cardiovascular risk biomarkers, physical activity, and subclinical atherosclerosis. The results showed that MetS was present in approximately one-fourth of APS patients and was associated with arterial thrombosis, cardiovascular risk biomarkers, physical activity, and subclinical atherosclerosis. This suggests that MetS plays an important role in cardiovascular risk stratification and management in APS.

Summary: It is difficult to determine the exact origin of Rheumatoid Arthritis, but there were clear descriptions in the 17th century. Augustin Jacob Landre-Beauvais is credited with the first clear description of the disease in his thesis. Sir Alfred Baring Garrod gave the disease its current name in 1859, which was later adapted by the Ministry of Health in Britain in 1922. Some forms of Juvenile Arthritis are related to adult Rheumatoid Arthritis, and if left untreated, it can lead to severe joint damage and systemic complications. The discovery of anti TNF-alpha agents in the 1990s and subsequent biologic agents have greatly improved the clinical outcome of Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Summary: Our study demonstrates that cytological evaluation of spinal lesions suspected of malignancy can provide a quick and reliable diagnosis of the underlying disease in patients with new-onset malignant spinal lesions, facilitating appropriate treatment. Implementing this process as a routine clinical diagnostic can shorten the time to diagnosis and improve treatment outcomes for this vulnerable patient group.

Summary: This study evaluated the use of intraoperative cell salvage (ICS) during reimplantation of hip arthroplasties. Positive intraoperative cultures were found in 13 cases, but no significant correlation was found between the detection of positive cultures and the occurrence of complications. The use of ICS during reimplantation was considered to be indicated in terms of patient blood management, but further studies are needed for septic revision arthroplasty.
