Summary: The use of nutraceutical products for male sexual enhancement, especially in treating erectile dysfunction, has a long history. Alternative treatments for erectile dysfunction are gaining popularity, with increasing interest from consumers and higher revenue for manufacturers. Dietary supplements, which are a combination of active ingredients, are mainly sold online. However, studies have not provided sufficient evidence to consider these products as a first-line therapy, raising doubts about their real effectiveness. A systematic review of the literature identified some nutraceuticals, such as Panax ginseng, Tribulus terrestris, and L-arginine, that can improve male sexual function.

Summary: The study found that patients with erectile dysfunction have a higher risk of osteoporosis, especially in younger males. Given that the assessment of osteoporosis is economical and noninvasive, it is recommended to evaluate bone mineral density in patients with ED and assess erectile function in men with osteoporosis.

Summary: This meta-analysis aimed to review clinical trials of the combination of Pycnogenol(R) and L-arginine (PAL) in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in men and observe its effect on sexual function. The results showed significant differences in international index of erectile function scores, intercourse satisfaction scores, orgasmic function scores, overall satisfaction scores, and sexual desire scores between the combination treatment group and the control group, but no significant difference in improving testosterone levels. This study provides more options for treating patients with ED and further randomized controlled trials are needed to demonstrate the effect of combination therapy on sexual function in patients with ED.

Summary: A two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study revealed a positive causal link between hypertension and the risk of erectile dysfunction. Various MR methods consistently showed that hypertension is associated with an increased risk of erectile dysfunction. Therefore, more attention should be given to prevent or improve erectile function in the management of hypertension.

Summary: Previous meta-analyses have shown that women with a history of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) have a 2- to 4-fold increased risk of later cardiovascular disease. This study aims to summarize the evidence for the impact of HDP on dementia and explore the unique associations between HDP and dementia subtypes.

Summary: The aim of this study was to compare the infection risk between the AUA-recommended prophylaxis (vancomycin and gentamicin alone) and nonstandard regimens for primary inflatable penile prosthesis surgery. The results showed that the infection rate was similar between the two groups, but the vancomycin and gentamicin regimen was associated with a higher infection risk. Therefore, further research is needed to evaluate the recommended antimicrobial prophylactic regimens and determine best practices for inflatable penile prosthesis surgery.

Summary: This study used Mendelian randomization to investigate the causal relationship between hypertension, antihypertensive drugs, and the risk of erectile dysfunction. It found that genetically predicted hypertension increases the risk of erectile dysfunction, while elevated systolic/diastolic blood pressure is not causally associated with erectile dysfunction. Furthermore, there is little evidence that antihypertensive drugs increase the risk of erectile dysfunction.

Summary: The study compared the effects of intensive periodontal treatment and conventional periodontal treatment on arterial blood pressure, endothelial function, and inflammatory/metabolic biomarkers. The results showed that intensive periodontal treatment improved cardiovascular health in hypertensive and prehypertensive individuals, with no significant effect observed in normotensive individuals.
