Summary: Capillary electrochromatography (CEC) has a significant role in chiral separation, and open tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC) shows promising applications. OT-CEC stationary phases (SPs) developed over the past four years can be categorized into six types, and their characteristics in chiral drug separation are introduced. The applications of OT-CEC in metabolomics, food, cosmetics, environment, and biology, as well as its integration with other instruments like mass spectrometry (MS) and ultraviolet light detector (UV), are also discussed.

Summary: Native cyclodextrins were studied as chiral selectors in open-tubular admicellar electrochromatography using CTAB as dynamic stationary pseudophase. An increase in the CD concentration decreased the magnitude of the EOF, leading to reduced retention factors of the tested analytes as no admicelles or stationary pseudophase were formed under certain conditions.

Summary: A novel chiral covalent organic framework (CCOF) was synthesized and characterized. It was then used as a stationary phase in open-tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC) for enantioseparation of 21 single chiral compounds and simultaneous enantioseparation of mixture amino acids and pesticides. The CCOF-bonded OT-CEC column showed good reproducibility, stability, and high separation efficiency.

Summary: A novel chiral group functionalized metal-organic framework, Cyclodextrin-NH-MIL-53, was synthesized and utilized as a chiral capillary stationary phase for enantioseparation of racemic amino acids. Excellent separation of five pairs of enantiomers was achieved in this system. The prepared Cyclodextrin-NH-MIL-53 and capillary columns were characterized and the electrochromatography conditions were optimized. This research provides a novel insight and method for the design and use of metal-organic framework-based capillaries for enantioseparation.

Summary: A novel chiral open tubular capillary column was successfully fabricated using sulfobutylether-beta-cyclodextrin and glycidyl methacrylate for enantioseparation in capillary electrochromatography. The column showed good separation performance for amlodipine besilate, 2,3-diphenylpropionic acid, tropic acid, and pantoprazole enantiomers with satisfactory repeatability. Results indicate a promising prospect for enantioseparation of chiral drugs using beta-cyclodextrin modified open tubular capillary columns in capillary electrochromatography.

Summary: The study discusses the in-line sample concentration by micelle to cyclodextrin stacking in open-tubular liquid chromatography with UV detection. Factors influencing MCDS, such as type and concentration of CD, concentration of CTAB, were studied to achieve higher sensitivity and linear range under optimized conditions. Application to real samples showed comparable results to high-performance liquid chromatography-UV method.

Summary: Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted wide attention as a novel separation medium in capillary electrochromatography (CEC). In this study, a mesoporous Iron-based gamma-cyclodextrin metal-organic framework (Fe-CD-MOF) was developed as the chiral stationary phase in an open tubular CEC column. The Fe-CD-MOF coated capillary showed excellent performance for the separation of fourteen chiral drugs and one chiral alcohol. The coated capillary demonstrated outstanding stability and repeatability, making it a potential chiral stationary phase for CEC chiral separation.

Summary: This study evaluates the impact of using ionic liquids (ILs) on the separation efficiency of biogenic amines (BAs) in micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC). It found that ILs with chloride and tetrafluoroborate ions were the most effective, while ILs with trifluoromethanesulfonate and bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ions disrupted the separation process. Overall, this study provides a critical assessment of the different types and concentrations of ILs in MEKC analysis of selected BAs.
