Summary: This study retrospectively assessed the treatment approaches and outcomes of patients with KS in Peru. The majority of patients had a high severity status and received systemic chemotherapy. Paclitaxel was the most commonly used first-line drug and showed relatively high overall response rates for both AIDS-related KS and CKS. The 5-year OS rates were slightly lower for AIDS-related KS patients compared to CKS patients.

Summary: Kaposi sarcoma-immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (KS-IRIS) is a common disease among people living with HIV, despite the improvement of KS with antiretroviral therapy (ART), the occurrence of KS-IRIS still exists and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the baseline differences and the impact of pomalidomide on lymphocyte counts and T-cell subsets in patients with Kaposi sarcoma. The results showed that pomalidomide can decrease T-cell senescence and increase T-cell activation, suggesting its immunomodulatory effects contribute to its activity against Kaposi sarcoma.

Summary: Kaposi's sarcoma has multiple forms, with the HIV-related form being the most aggressive and involving different areas. Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpes virus is the underlying cause of the disease, affecting host cell proliferation and angiogenesis, and also impacting immune response.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) infection, HIV-1 infection, and antiretroviral therapy (ART) rollout in South Africa. The findings show that KSHV seropositivity is higher in males and individuals with HIV, and lower in individuals with higher levels of education. KSHV seroprevalence decreases over time, coinciding with ART rollout and improvements in educational standards and hygiene.

Summary: This report presents two cases of AIDS-related Kaposi sarcoma (AIDS-KS) associated with severe steroid-unresponsive periorbital lymphedema that responded to chemotherapy. The association of periorbital edema with KS is important as it often leads to the misuse of steroids in HIV-infected patients.

Summary: This study found that most cases of Kaposi sarcoma occurring in HIV-infected individuals are AIDS-KS, but Kaposi sarcoma can also occur in individuals with controlled viral load. Compared to CKS, Kaposi sarcoma in individuals with controlled viral load demonstrate similar clinical presentations, while individuals with viremic AIDS-KS present with more aggressive features.

Summary: This case report presents a rare occurrence of co-infection and co-localization of KSHV and EBV in KS arising from the conjunctiva. The possibility of interactions between these two viruses within the same lesion is indicated. Further study is needed to determine the prevalence of EBV co-infection in KS and its impact on KS development and progression.

Summary: Kaposi sarcoma is a common malignancy in AIDS patients, usually presenting as pigmented papules and nodules on the skin. This case report describes a 31-year-old smoker with AIDS who developed a throat mass with hoarseness of voice, which was diagnosed as laryngeal Kaposi sarcoma. It highlights the importance of considering laryngeal involvement of Kaposi sarcoma in immunodeficient patients, especially when there are no skin lesions.

Summary: Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare, aggressive primary neuroendocrine carcinoma of the skin while Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is an indolent angioproliferative tumor associated with human herpesvirus 8 (HHV8). Concurrent occurrence of MCC and KS is rare, with limited reported cases. Treatment is still ongoing with pembrolizumab for both KS and MCC in this particular case.

Summary: This study reveals a new variant of KS that resembles well-differentiated angiosarcoma histologically. These tumors can be difficult to differentiate from KS without clinical guidance, posing significant diagnostic challenges. Awareness of this variant of KS is crucial for proper diagnosis and management of patients.

Summary: The phase 2 GRIFFIN study explores the efficacy of D-RVd combination therapy in transplant-eligible newly diagnosed multiple myeloma patients. The study shows promising results in terms of high stringent complete response rate and minimal residual disease negativity at the end of maintenance therapy. The safety profile of the treatment regimen is consistent with previous studies, and with over 3 years of follow-up, D-RVd demonstrates durable responses that deepen with D-R maintenance.

Summary: This study provides a deeper understanding of the viral genetic determinants of coreceptor shift by combining single-genome sequence analysis and next-generation sequencing. It highlights the importance of low-frequency mutants in the development of drug resistance and the role of specific amino acid substitutions outside the V3 region. Additionally, it emphasizes the significance of residues in the V1/V2, V4, C3, and C4 domains in coreceptor shift.
