Summary: This study reveals that cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) protect cardiomyocytes against ischemia/reperfusion (MI/R)-induced injury by inhibiting pyroptosis. Furthermore, CFs secrete exosomes containing increased levels of microRNA-133a (miR-133a) under hypoxia/reoxygenation condition, which then deliver miR-133a into cardiomyocytes to target ELAVL1 and repress cardiomyocyte pyroptosis. Based on these findings, a new strategy using exosomes derived from CFs with overexpressed miR-133a is developed to enhance the therapeutic outcomes for MI/R injury.

MiR-432 protects against MI/R injury by activating the beta-catenin/ HIF-1 alpha pathway and augmenting NRF2-mediated anti-oxidative stress.
