Summary: The study evaluated the accuracy of case definitions for COP using ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes in Taiwan's health insurance claims data, finding that COP patients were not accurately identified with ICD-CM codes alone, but accuracy improved when including oxygen therapy data with the codes in the claims data.

Summary: This study developed an operational definition to identify patients with osteoporotic hip fractures (OHFs) using diagnosis and procedure codes from health insurance claims data. The validity of the operational definition was assessed through a chart review. The results showed that the operational definition had high accuracy and discriminative power, making it a valid tool for detecting OHFs.

Summary: The accuracy of International Classification of Disease, ninth/tenth revision codes in classifying appendicitis as uncomplicated versus complicated was evaluated. The study found that these codes did not accurately identify surgeon-described complicated appendicitis, leading to potential reimbursement issues and misleading research results.

Summary: Identifying the cause of death using claims data in Japan is important for studying end-of-life patients, but its validity remains uncertain. This study aimed to verify the validity of the method by comparing disease definitions in claims data with death certificates. The definitions with the highest positive predictive values and sensitivities were those that included the main disease in both medical and DPC data. Recommendations for cancer and cerebrovascular disease were based on these results, while caution is advised for other causes of death due to the small sample size.

Summary: The objective of the study was to develop diagnostic criteria for early knee OA by analyzing baseline factors and creating predictive models. The results showed fair predictive ability in individuals presenting with knee pain in primary care, indicating further research and validation of predictive factors is required for clinically feasible and relevant diagnostic criteria for early knee OA.

Summary: This study analyzed real-world data from a healthcare database to understand the epidemiological features of anaphylaxis. The accuracy of case-identifying definitions based on different diagnosis codes was evaluated. The findings suggest that using ICD-10-CM codes for anaphylaxis provides acceptable positive predictive value, while using codes for severe allergic or drug adverse events with additional modifier codes for acute allergy events has lower accuracy.

Summary: In this study, an algorithm was validated to link VQI data and Medicare claims using indirect identifiers, achieving a matching rate of over 90% and accuracy of over 99%. This provides a suitable alternative when direct linkage using Social Security numbers is not possible, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of long-term follow-up and research initiatives.

Summary: This study compared the incidence of osteoarthritis (OA) diagnoses between patients with single-ligament anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and those with multiligament knee injury (MLKI). It found that MLKI patients had a higher incidence of OA, and identified several risk factors for OA diagnosis after MLKI.

Summary: Examining irAEs, particularly gastrointestinal and pulmonary, through ICD data leads to underrepresentation of true irAEs and overrepresentation of false irAEs. Using ICD claims data alone is not a suitable approach for electronic health record data mining for irAEs in immunotherapy clinical research.

Summary: In Korean patients with rheumatoid arthritis, the use of Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKis) was not associated with an increased risk of herpes zoster (HZ) development. However, having a duration of rheumatoid arthritis less than 10 years and having received three or more previous targeted therapies were identified as risk factors for HZ. Among JAKi users, higher disease activity score and having received three or more previous targeted therapies were additional risk factors for HZ.

Summary: Patients with seropositive rheumatoid arthritis (SPRA) utilized more methotrexate and biologic agents, had higher number of RA-related outpatient visits, and incurred higher annual medical costs compared to those with seronegative RA (SNRA). The incremental cost of seropositivity on total medical costs of RA patients increased as costs approached the upper quantile. Direct medical costs for both groups increased between 2012 and 2016, with a higher percentage increase in the SNRA group.

Summary: Glucocorticoids are commonly used to treat autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, but can have adverse effects on bone health, leading to glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis. Early risk assessment and intervention are crucial in preventing fractures. Bisphosphonates are recommended as the first-line therapy for prevention and treatment of this condition.
