Summary: The study demonstrates that HDI can inhibit the growth and viability of lung adenocarcinoma cells by inducing ferroptosis. In addition, HDI suppresses tumor growth and increases the expression of ferroptosis-related indicators in tumor tissue. The induction of ferroptosis is achieved by regulating VDAC2/3 activity and the interaction between Bcl2 and Bax.

Summary: The combination of Hedyotis diffusa Willd and Scutellaria barbata D.Don (HD-SB) has been traditionally used for its anti-tumor effects. This study found that HD-SB significantly inhibited the proliferation and migration of ovarian cancer cells, mainly through the focal adhesion pathway. Quercetin, luteolin, and baicalein were identified as important anti-ovarian cancer ingredients in HD-SB.

Summary: This study evaluated the potential of Hedyotis diffusa extract, a commonly prescribed phytomedicine for liver cancer patients in Taiwan, as an adjuvant agent to enhance the efficacy and safety of sorafenib. Results showed that the combination of sorafenib and H. diffusa extract did not significantly affect the pharmacokinetic properties of sorafenib or hepatic activity in rats. Hence, the findings suggest positive safety outcomes for the administration of sorafenib in combination with H. diffusa extract.

Summary: Crosslinking affects the mechanical behavior and tissue metabolism of collagen-based tissues. Aging and diabetes alter the crosslinking type and density, thus changing tissue properties. High-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking and advanced-glycation end-products result in uniform deformation under daily activity, while low-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking does not. High-connectivity model displays more sliding, while AGEs induce instability in structures near the binding sites.

Summary: The potential of multi-layer nanoemulsions for improving the cellular uptake, antioxidant activity, and in vitro bioaccessibility of alpha-tocopherol was examined. The results showed that the multi-layer nanoemulsions significantly enhanced the cellular uptake and antioxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol compared to free coumarin 6. Furthermore, the use of chitosan and dextran sulfate as wall materials in the multi-layer nanoemulsions led to even higher cellular uptake, in vitro bioaccessibility, and antioxidant activity of alpha-tocopherol.
