Micaela Berni, Alice Maria Brancato, Camilla Torriani, Valentina Bina, Salvatore Annunziata, Elena Cornella, Michelangelo Trucchi, Eugenio Jannelli, Mario Mosconi, Giulia Gastaldi, Laura Caliogna, Federico Alberto Grassi, Gianluigi Pasta

Summary: Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is increasingly used in orthopedics practices to promote angiogenesis, fracture healing, and osteogenic differentiation of stem cells. However, the cellular mechanisms during bone formation remain largely unknown. Factors such as wavelength, energy density, irradiation, and frequency of LLLT influence the cellular mechanisms, and the effects of LLLT vary according to cell types treated. This review aims to summarize the current knowledge of the molecular pathways activated by LLLT and its effects on the bone healing process to improve its clinical application.

Daniel Alvarez Sanchez-Bayuela, Navid Ghavami, Cristina Romero Castellano, Alessandra Bigotti, Mario Badia, Lorenzo Papini, Giovanni Raspa, Gianmarco Palomba, Mohammad Ghavami, Riccardo Loretoni, Massimo Calabrese, Alberto Tagliafico, Gianluigi Tiberi

Summary: In this study, the effectiveness of the MammoWave microwave imaging device for breast cancer detection is investigated through a multicentric European clinical trial. The device uses a Huygens-principle-based radar algorithm for image reconstruction and dedicated image analysis software. Conductivity weighted microwave images are created for each breast, and various image parameters are used to quantify their non-homogenous behavior. Welch's t-test is used to verify the statistical significance between the selected image features and the gold standard radiological study review.

Federica Rossi, Matteo Lambertini, Nicole Brunetti, Sara De Giorgis, Maria Grazia Razeti, Massimo Calabrese, Alberto Stefano Tagliafico

Summary: The purpose of this study was to evaluate pectoralis muscle area (PMA) depletion in breast cancer patients aged 45 years or younger undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) and its correlation with clinical and histopathological data. The results showed a decrease in PMA before and after NAC. However, there were no significant associations between PMA changes and other clinical and histopathological data. Therefore, assessing PMA variation on breast MRI during NAC could be a potential tool for monitoring body composition and improving outcomes in young breast cancer patients.
