Summary: This study aimed to compare the management and outcomes of carotid body tumor surgeries within different surgical specialties in the same healthcare system. Results showed that patients with advanced tumors were more likely to undergo preoperative embolization and sustain carotid artery injury. Collaborative surgeries had worse outcomes due to more advanced tumors requiring more complex surgeries.

Summary: The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the effectiveness of stenting in patients with isolated distal internal carotid artery stenosis or post-surgical restenosis. The study found that the early neurological complication rate was acceptable for distal internal carotid artery (re)stenosis patients, but the mid-term mortality rate was high for post-surgical restenosis patients.

Summary: Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of mortality and long-term disability worldwide. The increasing availability of advanced cerebrovascular imaging modalities continues to unravel atherosclerotic and nonatherosclerotic carotid steno-occlusive disease as a common culprit of cerebral ischemia. Individualized treatment strategies targeting each etiologic subset would optimize preventive measures and minimize recurrence of cerebral ischemia.

Summary: The study demonstrates the value of intraoperative somatosensory evoked potential (SEP) and selective shunting in preventing intraoperative ischemia during urgent extracranial internal carotid artery (eICA) recanalization. The decrease in intraoperative SEP amplitude can serve as an effective measure to guide the surgical procedure and improve clinical outcomes.

Summary: Significant advances have been made in the field of carotid artery stenting, with new trial data, professional statements, new techniques, and better candidate selection methods. The outdated coverage decision regarding CAS should be updated to approve CAS in selected symptomatic and asymptomatic patients for stroke prevention. Optimized CAS strategies and new technologies are leading to improved outcomes in CAS procedures.

Summary: This study found that carotid artery endarterectomy (CEA) and carotid artery stenting (CAS) resulted in similar outcomes for patients with contralateral carotid occlusion (CCO), with the risk of death being lower for patients treated with CEA. Further high-level evidence is needed to confirm these results.

Summary: In this study, the authors reported the first experience of direct percutaneous puncture technique using the low-viscosity formula of SQUID-12 for pre-operative embolization of carotid body paragangliomas. The additional use of a transitory balloon-blockage at the origin of the external carotid artery aims to provide higher protection and reduce the risk of non-target embolization and subsequent neurological sequelae. The results showed that this technique is safe and efficient with few complications.

Summary: There is a correlation between tortuosity of arteries and the development and rupture of aneurysms. Lower tortuosity of the internal carotid artery may protect against rupture of aneurysms, while higher tortuosity is associated with aneurysm growth.

Summary: This study used computed tomography perfusion (CTP) to explore the risk of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) after internal carotid artery stenting (CAS) in patients with symptomatic severe carotid stenosis. The results showed that CTP parameters, especially rMTT, can be used to predict the occurrence of ICH. Patients with a preoperative rMTT >1.88 should be closely monitored for evidence of ICH after CAS.

Summary: This study investigated the risk of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) after carotid artery stenting (CAS) in patients with severe carotid stenosis using computed tomography perfusion (CTP). The results showed that the relative mean transit time (rMTT) derived from CTP was the most effective parameter for predicting ICH.

Summary: This retrospective study investigated the clinical efficacy and safety of carotid artery stenting (CAS) in elderly patients with internal carotid artery stenosis (ICS). The results showed that CAS treatment significantly improved the stroke severity, daily living ability, oxidative stress, inflammatory cytokines, and cognitive function of elderly ICS patients. The complication rate in the CAS group was comparable to that in the control group.

Summary: In this study, a van der Waals field-effect transistor (VdW-FET) based on GeS was investigated, showing resonant tunneling behavior at room temperature due to VdW doping via black phosphorus (BP) and multiple decades of negative differential resistance (NDR) during doping transient state. A noticeable conductivity switch from low p-type to high n-type was observed with a conductivity enhancement of 2 orders of magnitude in doped GeS devices. These results indicate the potential of electrical oscillators and switching devices for next generation nanoelectronics.
