Summary: The double helicene with a spiro-Si linker exhibits unique optical properties due to the LUMO spiro-conjugation between the two sila[7]helicene units. The two helicene units in the compound are symmetrically and nearly perpendicularly arranged, thanks to the central spirosilabi[fluorene] moiety.

Summary: In this study, several derivatives of aza[5]helicenes were synthesized and characterized, with the introduction of a methyl group in the fjord region providing sufficient conformational rigidity for the formation of stable, resolvable enantiomers. Analyzing dimethyl aza[5]helicene on chiral HPLC columns revealed the presence of resolvable isomers. Compounds 1 and 15 were further characterized using single crystal X-ray diffraction and computational analysis, along with studying their photophysical properties.

Summary: A broadly applicable diastereo- and enantioselective inverse-electron-demand Diels-Alder reaction of 2-pyrones and acyclic enol ethers is reported, leading to the synthesis of bridged bicyclic lactones with high yields and enantioselectivities using a copper(II)-BOX catalytic system. Mechanistic studies suggest a stepwise mechanism, and the synthetic potential of the bridged bicyclic lactones is demonstrated through the enantioselective synthesis of polyfunctional cyclohexenes and cyclohexadienes, as well as a carbasugar unit.

Summary: We successfully synthesized a series of complex cycloheptatriene-containing azetidine lactones using two key photochemical reactions. Through ultrafast spectroscopy, we provided evidence for electron transfer from free amines in the excited state and characterized the aza-Yang reaction by studying the dependence of initial reaction rates on photon absorption rates. This study lays the foundation for exploring unexplored chemical space and providing a large quantity of new compounds for research purposes.

Summary: The diastereoselective synthesis of (2S,5R)-5-methyl-5-(phosphono)-proline, a phosphoproline derivative from L-pyroglutamic acid, is reported. The key feature of this method is the use of chiral cyclic imines as intermediates and the selective nucleophilic addition of phosphites. The target compound is obtained through cleavage and hydrolysis reactions.

Summary: A metal- and additive-free photoredox cyclization of N-arylacrylamides for the concise formation of dihydroquinolinones was reported, using sustainable visible light and the organic light-emitting molecule 4CzIPN as the efficient photocatalyst. The reaction system showed exclusive 6-endo-trig cyclization selectivity with generally good yields of functionalized dihydroquinolinones and dihydrobenzoquinolinones, with mechanistical studies supporting the feasibility of 1,3-H shift and intersystem crossing of the diradical intermediate.

Summary: In this study, three imidazobenzothiadiazole (ImBTD) fluorescent dyes were successfully synthesized and characterized. It was found that the introduction of imidazole groups at specific positions enhanced fluorescence and allowed for acid fluorescence response. Modification of different aromatic groups at other positions also resulted in tunable mechanochromic luminescence. These dyes also showed comparable mitochondrial staining ability to commercially available positively charged dyes.

Summary: In this study, an organic molecule of perylenequinone was anchored on the surface of carbon material through pi-pi interaction and applied as the cathode of lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs). The pi-pi interaction overcame the solvation effect of the organic molecule in organic electrolytes, providing stable existence in the long-cycle process of LSBs. The interaction mechanism between the organic molecule and lithium in the cathode was revealed, and the prepared electrode exhibited good cycling stability with high capacity retention.

Summary: A novel fluorescent probe B-Ch was designed based on the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) effect for detecting ONOO-. The detection sensitivity of the probe was improved by replacing the diethylamine group with a hydroxyl group through molecular engineering. After the addition of ONOO-, noticeable changes in solution color and fluorescence were observed, which were visible to the naked eye. The probe exhibited excellent advantages such as visualization, good selectivity, low sensitivity (22.4 nM), good stability and biocompatibility, and exogenous and endogenous imaging of ONOO- in HeLa cells.

Summary: Creating hydrogel electrolytes with balanced conductivity, mechanical robustness, and flexibility is still a challenge. In this study, anionic lambda-carrageenan gels (LC) and ethylene glycol (EG) were introduced into a poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogel to obtain an organo-hydrogel with a fixed K+ channel. The resulting hydrogel showed superior anti-freezing ability, thermal stability, and high ionic conductivity. A supercapacitor device fabricated using this hydrogel exhibited high specific capacitance, outstanding energy density, and a wide potential window.
