Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association between oxidative balance score (OBS) and urinary levels of 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) among Japanese adults. The findings showed that higher OBSs were significantly associated with lower urinary 8-OHdG levels, suggesting that OBS could be a useful tool for evaluating oxidative stress-related lifestyle factors, including diet.

Summary: This study discovered that empagliflozin (EMPA) has a hepatoprotective effect in TAA-induced hepatotoxicity by targeting AMPK/SIRT-1 activity and inhibiting HIF-1 alpha. It also found that EMPA can mitigate liver fibrosis and protect the liver from injury.

Summary: Endosulfan exposure causes high levels of oxidative stress in the liver and brain, leading to reduced antioxidant enzyme activity and increased ROS and lipid peroxidation. The brain is more susceptible to oxidative stress than the liver, likely due to its lower antioxidant defenses and higher oxygen consumption.

Summary: This study compared two species of Ferula genus (Ferula communis and Ferula hermonis) and found that F. communis has higher phenolic and flavonoid contents, as well as stronger antioxidant activity. On the other hand, F. hermonis exhibited better antimicrobial effects. Furthermore, F. communis displayed remarkable cytotoxic activity compared to F. hermonis.

Summary: This study evaluated the potential antifibrotic effect of policosanol in treating liver fibrosis and explored the underlying molecular mechanisms. The results showed that in the treated groups, especially the policosanol treated group, serum markers and gene expression levels returned to normal levels. This suggests that policosanol may be a promising natural therapeutic drug.

Summary: Sexual dysfunction is a noticeable adverse effect of atypical antipsychotic drugs (APDs) for the treatment of schizophrenia, but has not been thoroughly investigated. This study found that the APDs clozapine, ziprasidone, and sertindole induced histopathological changes in rat testicular tissue and disrupted the testicular antioxidant defense system and hormonal balance.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the anti-anxiety behavior of male albino rats by treating them with Avocado Powder and Juice. The results showed that the intake of avocado powder and juice significantly reduced body weight gain, daily feed intake, and feed efficiency ratio. Additionally, the activity of antioxidant enzymes was minimally influenced. These findings suggest that avocado fruit has an anxiolytic effect and can be a better alternative for individuals with anxiety disorders.

Summary: Excessive exposure to fluoride can cause damage to both bones and soft tissues, and is believed to induce oxidative DNA damage. This study investigated the effects of fluoride on 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) expression in various tissues of rats exposed to different concentrations of fluoride for different time periods. The results showed that fluoride accumulation in soft tissues varied significantly. The expression patterns of 8-OHdG in response to fluoride were tissue-specific and non-monotonic, with differences observed between the first and third months of fluoride exposure. Correlation analysis revealed inverse correlations between blood 8-OHdG and blood fluoride levels, as well as dental fluorosis grade. These findings suggest that the effects of fluoride on 8-OHdG are dependent on concentration and time of exposure, and vary by tissue.

Summary: The study found a significant positive correlation between serum IMA levels and the severity of DFU in diabetic patients, suggesting that high IMA levels may indicate a higher risk for DFU development. In addition, IMA levels were positively correlated with CRP, ESR, WBC, fasting plasma glucose, and HbA1c, while serum albumin levels were negatively correlated with IMA, CRP, ESR, and WBC values.

Summary: This study aims to determine whether zonulin and occludin levels are altered in bipolar disorder (BD) and whether they can serve as clinical biomarkers of the disease. The results show that the mean serum levels of zonulin and occludin in patients with BD are significantly higher compared to healthy controls. There is no correlation between the severity of the disease and zonulin and occludin levels, suggesting that these changes occur independently of disease stage. Furthermore, increasing body mass index is associated with higher levels of zonulin and occludin, with the highest levels observed in the obese group. Consideration of intestinal permeability may be important in determining the appropriate treatment for BD.

Summary: This study explored the association between levels of chemokines CXCL9, CXCL10, CXCL11, and CXCR3 and mortality in COVID-19 patients. The results showed that these chemokine levels were higher in severe cases compared to non-severe cases, and were also elevated in patients who died compared to those who survived. These findings suggest that these chemokines can serve as potential markers for disease severity and prognosis in COVID-19 patients.
