Summary: The study aims to assess the potential long-term physical side-effects of chemotherapy in survivors of Germ Cell Tumors (GCT) and Sex Cord Stromal Tumors (SCST), especially cardiovascular and pulmonary disorders. The results will contribute to adjusting treatment and follow-up management with adapted recommendations to reduce toxicity while maintaining efficacy. Intervention strategies based on the results could improve patient management during treatment and in the long term.

Summary: Significant efforts have been made in cancer treatment, leading to improved survival rates. However, research and care for long-term problems and late effects in cancer survivors are inadequate. This study found that while cancer survivors' overall health-related quality of life and physical function were comparable or better than the general population, emotional and cognitive function were worse, particularly among women. Commonly reported problems with moderate burden included loss of physical performance, fatigue, sexual problems, sleep problems, and anxiety. Survivors often rated the support they received as poor, especially for non-threatening medical issues or issues without effective medication or treatment. Factors such as older age, female gender, history of chemotherapy, and overweight/obesity were associated with higher burdens. These findings highlight the need for increased awareness and targeted care for the long-term and late effects experienced by cancer survivors.

Summary: This longitudinal study investigates the course and predictors of prostate cancer-related anxiety in long-term survivors treated by radical prostatectomy. The study found that prostate cancer-related anxiety remains stable over 5 years, and factors such as initial anxiety levels, biochemical recurrence, and psychological well-being predict future anxiety.

Summary: The study aims to assess whether the effects of therapeutic exercise programs are sustained over time (>= 5 years) in long-term breast cancer survivors (LTBCS). It also examines the impact of current physical activity (PA) levels on cancer-related fatigue (CRF) in these patients. The results indicate that the positive effects of therapeutic exercise programs are not maintained over time and that more than half of LTBCS remain inactive >= 5 years after completing the program, which is associated with higher levels of CRF.

Summary: This research investigated the situation of hematological cancer survivors regarding partnership, sexuality, and fertility-related communication. The results showed that most survivors were satisfied with their partnership and sexual life, but some experienced sexual impairments due to physical or mental symptoms. Factors related to quality of life included satisfaction with partnership, satisfaction with sexual life, and conversation about fertility with physicians. These findings need to be confirmed in longitudinal studies.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between fatigue and severity of other key cancer symptoms, as well as the interference with daily activities and outlook on life in long-term survivors of acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APL). The results showed a higher fatigue burden was associated with increased affective symptoms, memory problems, sleep disturbances, and pain. Fatigue also had a significant impact on the overall interference with daily activities and enjoyment of life among APL survivors.

Summary: The study aims to describe the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and fatigue in long-term indolent lymphoma survivors compared to normal data, as well as examine factors related to impaired HRQoL among the survivors. The results indicate that lymphoma survivors have higher fatigue levels and lower HRQoL in certain domains compared to the normative data. Somatic comorbidities, unemployment, and chronic fatigue were significantly associated with reduced physical HRQoL, while anxiety and depressive symptoms were associated with reduced mental HRQoL. These findings emphasize the importance of monitoring HRQoL and fatigue in long-term follow-up of lymphoma survivors, as there are treatment and rehabilitation options available.

Summary: Cancer-related fatigue is still not well understood, leading to undifferentiated treatment. This study investigated the potential use of bioelectrical phase angle (PhA) as a marker to identify specific fatigue subtypes. PhA was measured in breast cancer patients, and its association with fatigue severity and response to strength training was analyzed. The results showed that a decrease in PhA was significantly associated with increased physical and emotional fatigue. The association was stronger in patients with normal BMI and low pre-diagnosis exercise level. Furthermore, PhA was related to chemotherapy and strength training. These findings indicate that PhA may be a useful marker in classifying fatigue subtypes and tailoring treatments accordingly.

Summary: This study examined sex differences in cancer-specific psychosocial quality of life among long-term melanoma survivors. Females were more likely to report changes in appearance and fear of recurrence, but also perceived a positive impact from melanoma. Males were more likely to acknowledge life's limited duration. Unique quality of life concerns for males and females following a melanoma diagnosis may require diverse support methods.

Summary: Genome-wide testing plays a crucial role in advancing precision medicine in oncology; however, current recommendations lack specificity regarding its indications and utility for different types of cancer. To address this, a national consensus approach using a modified Delphi methodology was employed in France to provide expert opinions on the use of genome-wide testing in clinical practice. Consensus was reached through multiple rounds of rating, resulting in 24 statements agreed upon by the expert panel. While genome-wide testing was recommended for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and cancer of unknown primary (CUP), its routine use was not recommended for breast cancer and melanoma. The standardization of broad molecular screening in oncology may be facilitated by improved access to innovation in France.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the effect of additional chemotherapy on overall survival in patients aged 70 years or older with early breast cancer, as well as the impact of comorbidities on chemotherapy benefit. The results showed that additional chemotherapy was associated with improved overall survival, while chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and polypharmacy were associated with worse overall survival. Summary: The study aimed to analyze the impact of adjuvant trastuzumab on fatigue, emotional status, and quality of personal and work life in patients with localized breast cancer. The results showed that trastuzumab did not affect fatigue and return to work, but patients treated with trastuzumab may experience a stronger feeling of helplessness in terms of emotional well-being. Summary: Soil contamination is a significant issue due to urbanization and industrialization. This paper introduces the bioaugmentation effect of fungal strain Absidia cylindrospora on co-contaminated industrial soil for the first time. The study investigates the evolution of metals and PAHs content in the soil over time, as well as the adsorption and/or accumulation of metals within the mycelium of Absidia cylindrospora. The results show that the fungal strain can simultaneously accumulate Cd, Co, Cu, Ni, and Zn, even in the presence of high levels of PAHs.

Summary: ObjectiveSplenectomy is performed in a significant percentage of cytoreductive surgeries for ovarian cancer. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of splenectomy on overall and disease-free survival in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer. MethodsA retrospective study was conducted on patients who underwent cytoreduction for ovarian cancer between January 2000 and December 2016. Patients were stratified into splenectomy and non-splenectomy groups, and postoperative complications and survival outcomes were analyzed. ResultsA total of 464 patients were included in the study. The splenectomy group had higher disease stages, peritoneal carcinomatosis scores, and radical surgery rates. However, there was no significant difference in complete cytoreduction rates between the two groups. Splenectomy was associated with extensive surgical procedures and increased risk of abdominopelvic lymphocele and blood transfusion. The average length of hospital stay and delay in adjuvant chemotherapy were longer in the splenectomy group. Overall and disease-free survival rates were not significantly different between the groups. ConclusionSplenectomy may be a safe procedure with no impact on overall or disease-free survival in patients with ovarian cancer. However, it is associated with longer hospital stay and delay in chemotherapy.

Summary: This study analyzed the impact of total laryngectomy on the quality of sexual life for cancer patients and the methods used to assess it. The results showed that the quality of sexual life was severely affected, including issues like erectile dysfunction, decreased ejaculatory function, and low libido. Lack of postoperative support was also reported. Therefore, these factors should be taken into account before performing total laryngectomy, and there is a need for a common information tool to improve the management of sexuality based on patient demand.
