Summary: This study found that receiving at least one year of nephrology care before dialysis initiation was associated with a 22% lower post-dialysis mortality hazard. Intermittent care showed some survival benefits, with slightly lower hazards ratio compared to care over one to two years and care over two years.

Summary: This study found that approximately 42.3% of patients undergoing maintenance dialysis experienced apathy. During the follow-up period, 60.9% of patients were hospitalized and 26.1% died. Apathy was associated with a higher risk of hospitalization and mortality compared to patients without apathy, indicating a correlation between apathy and poor outcomes in patients with maintenance dialysis.

Summary: This study assessed the effects of lipid-lowering agents on clinical outcomes in dialysis patients. The results showed that the use of lipid-lowering agents was associated with a significant reduction in the risk of death and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs), and this survival benefit was significant across different subgroups.

Summary: Cancer is a significant cause of mortality among solid organ transplant recipients, with nonmelanoma skin cancers, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and kidney cancer being the most common types. The incidence of cancer has decreased in recent years, possibly due to changes in immunosuppression methods.

Summary: This study found that low SES as measured by health insurance status was associated with an increased risk of patient mortality and hospitalization in Korean maintenance HD patients. The MA recipient group showed significantly higher mortality risk and hospitalization risk compared to the NHI beneficiary group.

Summary: A nationwide study in Korea found that the risk of incident Parkinson's disease in kidney transplant recipients is similar to that in the general population, but significantly lower than that in end-stage renal disease patients. Older age is the strongest predictor for incident Parkinson's disease in kidney transplant recipients.

Summary: This retrospective study investigated the impact of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) on the survival rate of patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD). The study found a significant association between long-term PPI usage and increased mortality among HD patients, especially in those without a high gastrointestinal burden or comorbidities.

Summary: The association between pre-transplant dialysis duration and post-transplant outcomes varies, and longer time on dialysis is associated with an increased rate of several adverse post-transplant outcomes.

Summary: This study evaluated the characteristics of dialysis patients and their survival based on the dialysis modality in Brazil. The findings show that sociodemographic factors have changed in relation to dialysis modality over the past decade. The one-year survival rates of both dialysis methods are comparable.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the association between statin initiation after starting dialysis and all-cause mortality in statin-naive ESKD patients. The results showed that statin initiation was associated with a lower risk of all-cause mortality. However, there was no significant association with major adverse cardiovascular events. Further prospective studies are needed to validate these findings.

Summary: Social deprivation is an independent risk factor for the development of DFD, PN, FU, PVD, LLA, and gangrene in newly diagnosed patients with type 2 diabetes. Strategies targeting patients in socially deprived areas are needed to reduce health inequalities considering the high individual and economic burdens of DFD.
