Summary: A series of C-6 fluorinated casuarine derivatives have been synthesized, and their structure-activity relationship has been studied using glycosidase assays and molecular docking calculations. Introduction of fluorine atom(s) at C-6 position increases the specificity of the derivatives towards amyloglucosidase, and the configuration of C-6 fluorine affects the inhibitory activity.

Summary: The high dimensionally structured W-V-O catalysts (HDS-WVO) synthesized by hydrothermal method showed excellent catalytic performance for the selective oxidation of toluene to benzoic acid. The Cs+ ion exchange significantly decreased the catalytic activity of HDS-WVO, indicating that toluene oxidation takes place at the heptagonal channel site.

Summary: The selective hydrogenation of fluorinated arenes with polar functionalities provides a versatile pathway for the synthesis of valuable substituted fluorocyclohexane derivatives. The use of supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO(2)) as a hydrophobic and green solvent, in combination with Rh nanoparticles immobilized on molecularly modified silica as catalysts, favors hydrogenation over hydrodefluorination. This approach compares favorably to traditional synthetic routes in terms of green chemistry metrics, as demonstrated for the synthesis of 4-fluorocyclohexan-1-ol, a useful building block.

Summary: In this study, isotropic dry etching characteristics of SiNx and SiO2 using ClF3/Cl-2 remote plasmas were investigated. Increasing the Cl-2 percent in the ClF3/Cl-2 gas mixture increased the etch selectivity of SiNx over SiO2 while decreasing the etch rate of SiNx. By adding 15% Cl to ClF3/Cl-2, an etch selectivity higher than 500 could be achieved with a SiNx etch rate of around 8 nm min(-1), and increasing the Cl percent to 20% further increased the etch selectivity to higher than 1000.

Summary: Four symmetrically substituted and four asymmetrically substituted fluorinated and non-fluorinated-diarylamine CuPcs and ZnPcs were used as hole transporting materials in perovskite solar cells. The correlation between electronic structure, charge mobility parameters, core metal, and substituents in metal phthalocyanines was established. The best power conversion efficiency of 15.40% was achieved by the fluorinated asymmetrically substituted undoped ZnPc-6.

Summary: This study investigates the Rh-catalyzed hydroformylation of various olefins using triethylamine (Et3N) as an additive in the presence of different reaction parameters. The results show that the addition of Et3N in the [Rh(cod)Cl]2/PPh3 catalytic system improves the conversion of substrates (up to 99%) and the chemo/regioselectivity of the products (up to 99%), and widens the applicability for the synthesis of important aldehydes. Moreover, the catalytic system can be recycled more than 7 times and provides a new method for the synthesis of pesticide dinotefuran and perfume Lily aldehyde intermediates.

Summary: Bambusurils can be used for tuning and characterizing supramolecular systems by acting as anion scavengers in metal-mediated self-assemblies. They can manipulate the subtle equilibria in the system, trigger the self-assembly process, and enhance specific interactions between components. Bambusuril has the ability to selectively remove coordinating anions from mixtures, enabling regenaration of the supramolecular structure.

Summary: Supramolecular self-assembly in water, leading to polymeric structures, has potential applications in biology and medicine. In this study, we report the self-association of host molecules based on glycoluril dimers into linear oligomers in water. The polymerization degree of the resulting supramolecular aggregates was calculated using the isodesmic model and Carothers equation. A model compound was prepared for a better understanding of the forces responsible for the self-association of glycoluril dimer-based monomers in water.
