Summary: Repeat hepatectomy is a safe and effective treatment option for patients with resectable recurrent colorectal liver metastases (CRLM). Prognostic factors such as R0 resection, carcinoembryonic antigen level, presence of extrahepatic disease, disease-free interval, number and size of hepatic lesions, blood transfusion requirement, and adjuvant chemotherapy play a role in determining the outcomes. Multimodal approach involving aggressive chemotherapy and repeat hepatectomy might be preferred for early recurrent CRLM.

Summary: This study developed and validated a prognostic model based on FDG metabolic parameters for predicting recurrence after surgery for colorectal cancer liver metastasis. The model showed good discrimination and calibration in external validation, and can be used for accurate risk stratification in patients with synchronous colorectal cancer liver metastasis.

Summary: An accurate and specific signature based on immune-related genes has been developed to predict the recurrence of CRC, with the ability to predict prognosis in different patient subgroups and mutation states. High-risk patients show poorer response to chemotherapy and immunotherapy, as well as lower immune scores, and the signature serves as an independent prognostic factor in predicting the overall survival of CRC patients.

Summary: The study developed a novel microsatellite stable-associated signature (MSSAS) and demonstrated its independent prognostic value in non-MSI-H/pMMR CRC patients for overall survival and relapse-free survival, showing stable and accurate predictive performance across multiple cohorts and outperforming other clinical indicators. Clinical validation further supported the robustness and clinical feasibility of MSSAS as a promising biomarker for advancing the management of non-MSI-H/pMMR CRC.

Summary: This multicenter study aimed to investigate the correlation between the growth pattern of liver metastases on preoperative MRI and early recurrence in patients with colorectal cancer liver metastases. The results showed that FEP and NC type liver metastases were associated with early recurrence, which could guide the clinical treatment of patients with this condition.

Summary: This retrospective study aimed to investigate the impact of the initial recurrence site on post-recurrence survival in patients with colorectal cancer. It was found that patients with recurrence in the peritoneum and multiple organs or sites had a poor prognosis. Early monitoring and comprehensive treatment should be provided to these patients to improve their prognosis.

Summary: The study suggests that increased levels of GP88 in the serum of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patients are associated with a better prognosis, and may serve as an independent predictor of OSCC patients' outcomes. Low serum GP88 levels are significantly linked to a worsened prognosis for OSCC, especially in patients over the age of 60.5.

Summary: High recurrence rates after resection of liver cancer with curative intent impair clinical outcomes of patients diagnosed with liver cancer. Cancer/testis antigens (CTAs) were found to be expressed in a majority of liver cancer patients, with expression in tumor-free liver tissue associated with increased risk of tumor recurrence and poor survival. Targeting these CTA-expressing cells may be beneficial in preventing liver cancer recurrence.

Summary: Colorectal cancer (CRC) poses a serious threat to human health and the study identified RNF114 as a potential therapeutic target and biomarker for CRC. High expression of RNF114 was significantly associated with tumor invasion and clinical stage, and promoted cell proliferation, invasion, and metastasis. This study provides new insights into the mechanisms of CRC and offers potential strategies for treatment and diagnosis.

Summary: The lungs are the second most common site for metachronous metastases in colorectal cancer, and the role of adjuvant chemotherapy is unclear. This study aimed to evaluate pulmonary recurrences in a modern multimodal treated population and their survival depending on management. The results showed that a high proportion of lung recurrences were possible to resect, with better survival rates observed in patients treated with surgery combined with chemotherapy.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the safety and efficacy of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT)-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for lung metastases from colorectal cancer. The results showed that CBCT-guided lung RFA is a relatively safe and effective treatment option. However, controlling extrapulmonary metastases requires a combination or sequential use of systemic treatment and local treatment.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between cumulative hyperglycemia exposure and pancreatic cancer risk. The study analyzed data from 3,138,099 individuals who underwent annual health screenings between 2009 and 2013. The results showed that individuals with higher hyperglycemic burden had an increased risk of pancreatic cancer, and even pre-diabetic glucose levels were associated with an elevated risk.

Summary: This study evaluated the associations between gastric cancer family history and colorectal cancer risk, as well as between colorectal cancer family history and gastric adenoma risk. The results showed that gastric cancer family history was associated with an increased risk of gastric cancer, while colorectal cancer family history was not associated with the risk of gastric cancer or gastric adenoma. However, individuals with family histories of both gastric cancer and colorectal cancer had a higher risk of gastric adenoma. The study suggests that family histories of gastric cancer and colorectal cancer may affect each other's neoplastic lesion risk.

Summary: This study found that early treatment of H. pylori infection is associated with a reduced risk of gastric cancer. The gap in gastric cancer risk between patients with and without a family history of gastric cancer widens as the age at H. pylori eradication increases. The findings suggest that early treatment of H. pylori infection can maximize gastric cancer prevention.

Summary: This study analyzed the pretreatment albumin--bilirubin (ALBI) grade as a prognostic factor in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients undergoing combined transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and radiotherapy (RT). The results showed that ALBI grades 2-3 were associated with worse progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). The study suggests that ALBI grade may be a useful prognostic indicator for HCC patients treated with combined TACE-RT.

Summary: Recently, updated guidelines for post-polypectomy surveillance have been published by multiple societies, and this review summarizes and compares the recommendations of these guidelines. There are differences in the recommended surveillance intervals, particularly for different types of adenomas. Surveillance recommendations for patients with serrated polyps are limited, and more research is needed in this area.
