Summary: The study found that a drug holiday of 3 months for medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw in osteoporosis patients receiving antiresorptive agents does not promote sequestra separation or improve treatment outcomes, and early surgical therapy is recommended.

Summary: The aim of this study was to compare macrophage populations in the craniofacial and extracranial skeleton and investigate the changes induced by Zol application and surgical interventions. The results showed that there were significantly more macrophages and a heightened pro-inflammatory environment in the jaw bones compared to the tibia. Tooth extraction increased the number of macrophages and worsened the inflammatory environment in the jaw bones, which was amplified by Zol application. The study suggests that targeting macrophages could be an attractive strategy to prevent MRONJ.

Summary: In this retrospective study, new bone formation and factors influencing spontaneous bony bridge formation were examined in MRONJ patients who underwent segmental mandibulectomy with reconstruction using an R-plate without graft material. The results showed that all patients exhibited new bone formation, and 71.4% showed bony bridge formation within a year after surgery. Older patients had a lower tendency for bony bridge formation in the defect. Preservation of the periosteum may be a crucial factor for promoting new bone formation and an optimal treatment option for MRONJ patients after segmental mandibulectomy.

Summary: Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) refers to the non-healing jawbone ulcerative-necrotic lesion appearing after dental therapy or minor trauma in patients treated previously with certain medications. Studies have been conducted to explore MRONJ's classification, clinical features, and pathophysiology, as well as its management and new trends in treatment. Conservative therapy may not be effective for severe cases of MRONJ, but new methods that promote local angiogenesis and vascularization show promise in limited trials.

Summary: This study investigated the skeletal outcomes of patients with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) who underwent bisphosphonate (BP) treatment and entered drug holidays after achieving a specific bone mineral density (BMD) reference. The results showed that BMD remained stable during the drug holiday period, and the fracture incidence did not significantly increase. Patients with late treatment initiation and more severe OI phenotypes were more likely to require retreatment during drug holidays.

Summary: Osteonecrosis of the jaw is a severe clinical condition characterized by exposed bone that does not heal over time. Diagnosis is primarily clinical with imaging feedback playing a confirmatory role. Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw, particularly induced by bisphosphonates, has been widely discussed, but the exact mechanism remains debatable.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the preventive effect of ozonated oil on the development of MRONJ-like lesions at tooth extraction sites in rats receiving zoledronic acid treatment. While there was no statistically significant difference in the average area of vital and necrotic bone between the groups, ozonated oil appeared to reduce osteonecrosis development. Further research is needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: In cancer patients with bone metastases, high-dose bone-modifying agents are essential for treatment, but can also increase the risk of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). Inflammatory dental diseases can contribute to MRONJ, and characteristics such as location of teeth, radiographic changes, and tooth extractions after BMA therapy initiation are associated with MRONJ occurrence. Radiographic changes in bone surrounding the tooth roots are important indicators for prophylactic tooth extractions before starting BMA therapy.

Summary: Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a severe adverse side effect of certain drugs and is associated with invasive dental procedures. Previous studies have investigated preventive strategies, but no investigation has evaluated the therapeutic effect of local drug-delivery technology. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of hydroxyapatite-containing doxycycline (HADOX) in rats with high-risk MRONJ development.

Summary: This study compared traditional subjective assessment with quantitative evaluation using 3D stereophotogrammetry for facial cosmetic symmetry in patients after mandibular reconstruction. The results showed a strong negative correlation between subjective assessments and RMSD obtained from 3D stereophotogrammetry, confirming the reliability of this method for assessing symmetry in this patient population.

Summary: Vascularised fibular free flaps are important in reconstructive surgery for head and neck tumours. The study investigated the thickness of the mandible at different sites to reduce complications with plate fixation. The measurements showed variations in thickness at different points, with females having thinner measurements than males. Age and number of remaining teeth did not affect mandibular thickness, but height and weight were correlated.
