During the course of our search for novel bioactive compounds from marine fungi, four new citrinin derivatives, cladosporins A-D (1-4) were isolated from a culture broth of the deep-sea-derived fungus Cladosporium sp. SCSIO z015. Their complete structural assignments were elucidated by the extensive spectroscopic investigation. The absolute configurations of 1-3 were established by quantum chemical calculations of the electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra. Compounds 1-4 showed weak toxicity towards brine shrine naupalii with LC50 values of 72.0, 81.7, 49.9 and 81.4 mu M, respectively. And 4 also showed significant antioxidant activity against & x251;,alpha-diphenyl-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals with an IC50 value of 16.4 mu M.

Arsenic Trioxide Triggers Mitochondria! Dysfunction, Oxidative Stress, and Apoptosis via Nrf 2/Caspase 3 Signaling Pathway in Heart of Ducks

Gan Rao, Gaolong Zhong, Ting Hu, Shaofeng Wu, Jiajia Tan, Xiaoyong Zhang, Riming Huang, Zhaoxin Tang, Lianmei Hu

Summary: In this study, ducks were used to mimic arsenic trioxide (ATO) exposure and investigate its mechanism of cardiac toxicity. The results showed that ATO inhibited body and organ growth, increased LDH levels, and caused deformity and ischemia infarction in ducks. Transmission electron microscopy revealed that ATO exacerbated mitochondrial swelling and cell nuclei contraction in the duck heart. ATO also induced oxidative stress and apoptosis, via the Nrf 2/Caspase 3 signaling pathway, by altering the expression levels of various genes and proteins related to apoptosis and oxidative stress.

Modular calcination strategy to construct defect-rich nitrogen-doped Nb2O5 for boosting photocatalytic oxidation of cyclohexane to cyclohexanone in solvent-free conditions

Kuan Wang, Dan Wang, Xiao-Yong Zhang, Junlei Wang, Sheng-Li Lv, Zhen-Hong He, Huan Wang, Weitao Wang, Yang Yang, Zhao-Tie Liu

Summary: A series of modified N-doped Nb2O5 catalysts were prepared by using a modular calcination strategy combining hydrogen, vacuum, air, and ammonia modules. Among these modified catalysts, HN-Nb2O5 showed the best photocatalytic performance for the photo-oxidation of cyclohexane. The outstanding performance can be attributed to the abundant chemical defects of oxygen vacancies and Nb4+, as well as the presence of NOx species, which enhanced light absorption and effective electron-hole separation.

Target State Optimized Density Functional Theory for Electronic Excited and Diabatic States

Jun Zhang, Zhen Tang, Xiaoyong Zhang, Hong Zhu, Ruoqi Zhao, Yangyi Lu, Jiali Gao

Summary: A flexible self-consistent field method called target state optimization (TSO) is introduced, which can explore electronic excited configurations and localized diabatic states. The TSO method partitions molecular orbitals into different subspaces based on the excitation or localization pattern of a target state, allowing for variationally optimized excited or diabatic configurations without collapsing back to the ground state. TSO-DFT has been shown to outperform conventional TD-DFT calculations for core excitation, doubly excited states, and charge-transfer states.

Microstructure and properties of X100 large-deformability pipeline steel based on heating on-line partitioning

Shixia Cheng, Rensa Lv, Fei Cheng, Bin Han, Anqing Fu, Xiaoyong Zhang, Jianxun Zhang, Yaorong Feng, Huilin Gao

Summary: This paper introduces a kind of X100 pipeline steel with a multiphase structure of bainite and fine M/A constituent, which has high strength, toughness, and excellent plasticity. The Heating on-line partitioning (HOP) process is used to achieve the multiphase structure by diffusing carbon atoms from bainite to austenite, improving austenite stability and increasing the volume fraction of retained austenite. The widening of bainite laths and the decrease in dislocation density increase the plasticity, while carbides precipitation and martensite formation provide the steel with high strength.

Christian P. Hettich, Xiaoyong Zhang, David Kemper, Ruoqi Zhao, Shaoyuan Zhou, Yangyi Lu, Jiali Gao, Jun Zhang, Meiyi Liu

Summary: A multistate energy decomposition analysis (MS-EDA) method is introduced to analyze the energy components in molecular complexes in excited states. It partitions the total binding energy of an excimer or an exciplex into a ground-state term and excited-state contributions, providing quantitative insights into physical concepts such as exciton delocalization and superexchange charge-transfer effects. Based on the analysis, molecular complexes in excited states can be categorized into encounter excited-state complex, charge-transfer exciplex, and intimate excimer or exciplex. MS-EDA can serve as a useful tool for understanding photochemical and photobiological processes.
