Summary: The stillbirth rate was 13.2 per 1000 births in China in 2015-2016 and nearly one-third of all stillbirths may be preventable. Regional strategies should be considered to reduce the burden of stillbirths in China. The study identified risk factors such as advanced maternal age, pre-pregnant obesity, and fetal anomalies associated with stillbirths.

Summary: The labor-induction rate in China was 18.4% among nulliparous women and 10.2% among multiparous women in 2015-2016. Labor induction in low-risk women does not increase severe maternal and neonatal morbidity.

Summary: A restrictive use of episiotomy was recommended by the obstetric society in China, but the actual rate of episiotomy exceeded the medical necessity. Mediolateral episiotomy without indications increased the risk of perineal laceration in nulliparae without neonatal benefits.

Summary: Women with PCOS have a higher risk of extremely preterm birth, particularly with spontaneous onset, compared to women without PCOS. This information is important for antenatal risk assessment and further research on the biological mechanisms behind preterm birth in women with PCOS is needed.

Summary: Based on Chinese epidemiological data, there is an association between periodontitis severity and hypertension. The association is particularly evident in young individuals, with an increase in hypertension prevalence as periodontitis severity worsens. Therefore, it is necessary to improve education and awareness of periodontal treatment and preventive management among individuals at risk of hypertension, especially in the younger population.

Summary: Perinatal exposure to heat and air pollution increases the risk of preterm birth (PTB), especially in heavily polluted regions like China. This study analyzed data from the China Birth Cohort Study and found that maternal exposure to PM2.5, NO2, O-3, and extreme temperatures during the third trimester were independently associated with increased PTB risk. Interactive effects were observed between PM2.5 and high temperature, O-3 and high temperature, and O-3 and low temperature. These findings have important implications for future research and public health policies.

Summary: This study described the current management and outcome of native joint septic arthritis in French rheumatology departments, revealing a severe prognosis with high morbidity and mortality rates. The study found that management of NJSA was heterogeneous and highlighted the importance of the new French recommendations for facilitating NJSA management.

Summary: This study examined the associations between preterm birth, poor fetal growth, and anxiety disorders in children and adolescents. It found that preterm birth and poor fetal growth increased the odds for anxiety disorders, but these associations appeared to be explained by the presence of comorbid depressive or neurodevelopmental disorders.

Summary: This study found that exposure to cold spells was associated with an increased risk of preterm birth, particularly late, spontaneous preterm birth, and preterm premature rupture of the fetal membranes. The associations were more pronounced in northern and western regions, as well as with pregnancies carrying female fetuses.

Summary: The study found a higher prevalence of atrial fibrillation in China than previously reported, with low awareness and large treatment gaps. Awareness of atrial fibrillation was lower among men and urban residents, and only a small percentage of high-risk patients received anticoagulant therapy.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between air pollution exposure in the days before delivery and the risk of preterm births. The results indicated significant associations between air pollution and preterm births, with the relative risk decreasing with day lag but the cumulative effect increasing. Pregnant women should be aware of the risk of air pollution and try to avoid high concentration exposure.

Summary: Our study found that exposure to PM2.5 in pregnant women may lead to preterm birth, primarily in the third trimester rather than the first two trimesters. The significant associations observed between preterm birth and maternal PM2.5 exposure in the first and second trimesters in single-pollutant models might be influenced by exposure to gaseous pollutants. Our findings suggest that the third trimester is a susceptible window for maternal PM2.5 exposure and preterm birth, and the impact of PM2.5 exposure on maternal and fetal health should take into consideration the influence of gaseous pollutants.

Summary: The relationship between maternal thyroid function and pregnancy outcomes is still controversial in women planning pregnancy. This study found that preconception TSH levels were associated with preterm delivery, large for gestational age (LGA), and low birth weight (LBW). The safe range of TSH for preconception women was within 0.91 to 1.82 mIU/L.

Summary: The epidemiology of uveitis in Japan was investigated through a nationwide survey, revealing that new patients with uveitis accounted for 3.2% of new patients with ophthalmic diseases in 2016. Sarcoidosis, Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease, and herpetic iritis were the most frequent uveitis entities, with an increasing rate of herpetic iritis compared to previous surveys in 2009. Regular nationwide epidemiologic surveys are deemed valuable for monitoring changes over time.
