This paper performs cryptanalysis of a recently proposed image encryption scheme. The original encryption scheme uses plain image parameter to modify secret keys as a security measure and is based on improved one-dimensional (1-D) chaotic map with larger chaotic range than existing 1-D chaotic maps. 1-D chaotic maps have simple structure and have lower computation cost than higher dimensional chaotic maps. However, it has been found that the encryption scheme is vulnerable toward chosen plaintext attack with computational complexity of attack less than complexity of brute force attack. In addition, this paper presents an enhanced encryption scheme to remedy the flaws of original scheme. The security of the proposed encryption scheme has been analyzed through experimental results.
