We present the complete expression for the next-to-leading (1-loop) order galaxy power spectrum and the leading-order galaxy bispectrum in redshift space in the general bias expansion, or equivalently the e ff ective fi eld theory of biased tracers. We consistently include all line-of-sight dependent selection e ff ects. These are degenerate with many, but not all, of the redshift-space distortion contributions, and have not been consistently derived before. Moreover, we show that, in the framework of e ff ective fi eld theory, a consistent bias expansion in redshift space must include these selection contributions. Physical arguments about the tracer sample considered and its observational selection have to be used to justify neglecting the selection contributions. In summary, the next-to-leading order galaxy power spectrum and leading-order galaxy bispectrum in the general bias expansion are described by 22 parameters, which reduces to 11 parameters if selection e ff ects can be neglected. All contributions to the power spectrum can be written in terms of 28 independent loop integrals.

Information content in the redshift-space galaxy power spectrum and bispectrum

Nishant Agarwal, Vincent Desjacques, Donghui Jeong, Fabian Schmidt

Summary: This study investigates the statistical impact of galaxy bias and selection effects on the estimation of key cosmological parameters, finding that adding the galaxy bispectrum helps break parameter degeneracies and improve the accuracy of measuring parameters such as the linear growth rate. The research highlights the importance of controlling selection effects or marginalizing over them in order to obtain accurate results.

Statistics of a single sky: constrained random fields and the imprint of Bardeen potentials on galaxy clustering

Vincent Desjacques, Yonadav Barry Ginat, Robert Reischke

Summary: The presence of a single observer affects measurements of galaxy clustering statistics, but this effect can be mitigated by utilizing constrained random fields. The observer's existence breaks data homogeneity and imposes constraints on the observed galaxy power spectrum.

Analytic Solution to the Dynamical Friction Acting on Circularly Moving Perturbers

Vincent Desjacques, Adi Nusser, Robin Buhler

Summary: This paper presents an analytic approach to study the dynamical friction acting on a circularly moving point mass perturber in a gaseous medium, and provides corresponding analytical results. It is found that the steady-state dynamical friction in circular motion converges to the finite time perturbation expression in linear motion at low Mach numbers. The radial force is directed inward and dominates at large Mach numbers, while the tangential force opposes the motion of the perturber and is stronger at moderate and low Mach numbers. The analytic solution to the circular orbit dynamical friction exhibits a logarithmic divergence in the supersonic regime, which can be encoded in a maximum multipole for assessing the resolution dependence of numerical simulations.

Molecular Chemistry for Dark Matter. III. DarkKROME

Michael Ryan, Sarah Shandera, James Gurian, Donghui Jeong

Summary: Dark matter that is dissipative may cool to form compact objects, including black holes. A chemistry tool, DarkKROME, is introduced to accurately model the relevant processes for cooling dark matter gas with two unequal-mass fundamental fermions interacting via a massless-photon-mediated U(1) force. This tool is used for one-zone collapse simulations to study the evolution of temperature-density phase diagrams for various dark sector parameters.

Molecular Chemistry for Dark Matter. II. Recombination, Molecule Formation, and Halo Mass Function in Atomic Dark Matter

James Gurian, Donghui Jeong, Michael Ryan, Sarah Shandera

Summary: Dissipative dark matter predicts rich observable phenomena that can be tested with future large-scale structure surveys. A specific example, atomic dark matter, consisting of a heavy particle and a light particle charged under a dark electromagnetism, is studied. The cosmological evolution of atomic dark matter, focusing on dark recombination and dark molecule formation, is calculated.

Summary: This study reports on a search for compact binary coalescences with at least one component having a mass between 0.2 M-sun and 1.0 M-sun using data from Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo, finding no gravitational-wave candidates. Astrophysical constraints are derived on two models that could produce subsolar-mass compact objects, revealing potential for subsolar-mass black holes and suggesting new limits on the fraction of dark matter in such objects. The study represents the first constraints placed on dissipative dark matter models through subsolar-mass analyses.

Formation and Morphology of the First Galaxies in the Cosmic Morning

Changbom Park, Jaehyun Lee, Juhan Kim, Donghui Jeong, Christophe Pichon, Brad K. Gibson, Owain N. Snaith, Jihye Shin, Yonghwi Kim, Yohan Dubois, C. Gareth Few

Summary: We investigate the formation and morphological evolution of the first galaxies in the cosmic morning using the HR5 simulation. We find that disk-type morphology dominates in the cosmic morning, with almost all first galaxies forming at initial peaks of the matter-density field. The cosmic web of galaxies forms at lower redshifts when most rhizomes globally percolate.

A Lower Bound on the Mass of Compact Objects from Dissipative Dark Matter

James Gurian, Michael Ryan, Sarah Schon, Donghui Jeong, Sarah Shandera

Summary: This study investigates the fragmentation scale of dark gas formed in dissipative dark-matter halos and presents a simple model consistent with current observations. The results indicate that a significant portion of the parameter space is highly unstable to small-scale fragmentation.

Summary: We release the first catalog of sources obtained from the Hobby-Eberly Telescope Dark Energy Experiment (HETDEX), which is a spectroscopic survey designed to measure the Hubble expansion parameter and angular diameter distance. The catalog includes a large number of Ly alpha-emitting galaxies and [O ii]-emitting galaxies, as well as stars, low-redshift galaxies, and active galactic nuclei. It provides comprehensive information on the identified sources, including coordinates, redshifts, line identifications, classification information, line fluxes, and spectra.

Summary: This study analyzes how to enhance cosmological measurements of HETDEX using a citizen science campaign. The Dark Energy Explorers project aims to increase the number of LAEs, reduce false positives caused by noise and [O ii] galaxies. Initial analysis shows that citizen science, combined with unsupervised machine learning, is an efficient tool for accurate classification. The three most impactful aspects of the citizen science campaign are identifying detection problems, providing a clean sample for visual identification, and providing labels for machine learning efforts. Dark Energy Explorers has collected over three and a half million classifications from 11,000 volunteers in 85 countries worldwide. By incorporating the results of Dark Energy Explorers, a 10%-30% improvement in the accuracy of D(A)(z) and H(z) parameters at z=2.4 is expected. While the main goal is to enhance HETDEX, Dark Energy Explorers has already proven to be a uniquely powerful tool for scientific advancement and global accessibility to science.

Perturbation theory remixed: Improved nonlinearity modeling beyond standard perturbation theory

Zhenyuan Wang, Donghui Jeong, Atsushi Taruya, Takahiro Nishimichi, Ken Osato

Summary: We propose a novel nEPT scheme that models the nonlinear density field by summing up to nth-order density fields in perturbation theory. The analytical power spectrum obtained shows excellent agreement with results from 20 Dark-Quest N-body simulations across a wide range of cosmologies. This method can accelerate the forward modeling of the nonlinear cosmological density field, which is an essential probe of cosmic mysteries such as inflation, dark energy, and dark matter.

Dynamical friction in fuzzy dark matter: Circular orbits

Robin Buehler, Vincent Desjacques

Summary: This work investigates the dynamical friction experienced by circularly moving perturbers in fuzzy dark matter backgrounds. After condensation, fuzzy dark matter can be described by a single wave function satisfying the Schrodinger-Poisson equation. Analytical solutions are derived for both steady-state and finite time perturbation cases, and compared with numerical implementations. The study reveals the diffusive nature of the density wake produced by perturbers in the fuzzy dark matter medium.

Grid-based calculations of redshift-space matter fluctuations from perturbation theory: UV sensitivity and convergence at the field level

Atsushi Taruya, Takahiro Nishimichi, Donghui Jeong

Summary: Perturbation theory is used to interpret the observed nonlinear large-scale structure statistics in the quasilinear regime. The GridSPT algorithm is presented as a grid-based method to compute the nonlinear density and velocity fields in standard perturbation theory. Redshift-space distortions are taken into account in the analysis. The results show that the SPT calculation is more sensitive to UV sensitivity and deviates from N-body results below a certain Fourier wave number.

Gauge-invariant tensor perturbations induced from baryon-CDM relative velocity and the B-mode polarization of the CMB

James Gurian, Donghui Jeong, Jai-chan Hwang, Hyerim Noh

Summary: This study examines the gauge dependence of induced gravitational waves (IGWs) from scalar perturbations and calculates the gravitational wave power spectrum and expected angular power spectrum of B-mode polarization of the cosmic microwave background using relative velocity perturbations. The results show a negligible effect, highlighting the importance of using observable quantities to remove gauge ambiguity and demonstrating the observable consequences of tensor perturbations.
