Summary: DCD grafts pose risks of complications and graft loss after liver transplantation due to prolonged functional donor warm ischaemia time. Improved outcomes have been achieved through stringent donor selection criteria and utilization of organ perfusion technologies. These technologies also enable liver function assessment and precise graft-recipient selection.

Summary: This report presents the global issue of donor corneal tissue shortage for transplantation and suggests a potential solution by modifying the language used. It highlights that the term "eye donation" can discourage ocular tissue donation due to the "ick factor" it may generate. Instead, using terms like "ocular (eye tissue)" could provide less emotive terminology. The report emphasizes the importance of terminology shifts in the transplantation field and suggests that using "ocular" terminology could enhance the informed consent process, improve donation rates, and optimize patient quality of life for those with treatable blindness.

Summary: This paper examines the ethical justifiability of the opt-out organ donor register introduced in England in 2019, questioning whether such paradigms for deceased organ donation are ethically sound. The author ultimately challenges the justification of opt-out systems for organ procurement, suggesting that ethical solutions to organ shortage lie elsewhere.

Summary: Dual hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion (D-HOPE) improves preservation and outcomes in liver transplantation, especially when utilizing donors after neurological determination of death (DBD). D-HOPE reduces early graft failure, complications, and improves survival for both patients and grafts, including elderly donors.

Summary: The study found that specialists and individuals willing to donate organs have higher knowledge and attitude scores towards deceased organ and tissue donation. Those who have received education on organ donation also have higher knowledge scores. People with more experience in recommending organ and tissue donation had higher knowledge and attitude scores.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of local market competition and/or organ availability on kidney procurement and utilization. The results showed that lower competition was associated with higher export, while market monopoly was weakly associated with lower discard. Higher organ availability was associated with both export and discard.

Summary: The study evaluated the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on worldwide organ transplantation activities and found an overall decrease in transplant activity in all countries studied. Kidney transplantation was most affected, followed by lung, liver, and heart transplants. There was a marked reduction in transplant activity during the first 3 months of the pandemic, with losses stabilizing after June 2020 but decreasing again from October to December 2020.

Summary: Declining a liver offer during organ procurement may raise the risk of discard, but the details of late reallocation are still unclear. A study found that only 49% of livers declined during surgery were successfully transplanted, with varying success rates based on the timing of the decline.

Summary: Research indicates that understanding performance across decedents and hospital types can help organ procurement organizations meet new Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services metrics. Differences in recovery of organ donors exist between different OPOs, but are not apparent in SDRR rankings. Real-time recognition of underperformance across hospitals may provide important data for regulators and OPOs.

Summary: Over the past few years, research on melanoma has mainly focused on immunotherapy, omics, and the microbiome, while public interest in melanoma has mainly focused on related diseases or manifestations, treatment options, risk factors, diagnostic tools, and prognosis. The study found that the topics revealed by Google Trends and bibliometric analysis were mostly consistent, but there were differences in issues related to melanoma molecular biology.

Summary: Rosacea is characterized by facial flushing, erythema, telangiectasia, papules, and pustules, and its pathogenesis is not fully understood. The ROSacea COnsensus panel updated the diagnosis, classification, and assessment in 2017, recommending phenotype-based treatments and long-term managements. Murine models, including LL-37 injection model, have been used to study the pathophysiological and clinical features of rosacea, but there is still a need for improved and new models in future research.

Summary: This study analyzed dermatology consultations provided to hospitalized patients in a general surgery ward at Peking Union Medical College Hospital. Results showed that consultations were categorized into preoperative, postoperative, and unrelated to general surgery diseases or treatments, with common skin diseases including drug eruption, dermatitis/eczema, infectious skin disorders, and urticaria. Surgical residents had difficulty distinguishing certain skin diseases, highlighting the importance of dermatologist input in managing inpatient skin conditions.

Summary: Topical calcineurin inhibitors, pimecrolimus and tacrolimus, can have both beneficial and harmful effects on rosacea. While they may be effective in treating rosacea, they also have the potential to induce the condition. Larger randomized controlled studies are needed to further investigate their role in rosacea treatment and induction.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed renal biopsy results of HIV patients in China and found that classic HIV-associated nephropathy (HIVAN) was uncommon, while HIV immune complex kidney (HIVICK) diseases such as membranous nephropathy or IgA nephropathy were more common and had better prognosis. Antiretroviral therapy, ACE inhibitors, and angiotensin II receptor blockers were effective in reducing proteinuria and preserving renal function.
