Summary: There are differences in quality of life among patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases, but overall, approximately uniform factors explained the variance in quality of life across diseases. Clinicians should develop general approaches and strategies for inflammatory rheumatic diseases to improve patients' quality of life.

Summary: Enthesitis plays a crucial role in the diagnosis and management of patients with spondyloarthritis and psoriatic arthritis, but clinical assessment is often inaccurate due to poor specificity. Ultrasound has the potential to improve the evaluation of enthesitis and enhance patient management in this context. Reviewing the OMERACT definitions for ultrasound enthesitis can help identify current limitations and their potential implications for rheumatology research and clinical practice.

Summary: In this US-based study, the majority of patients with psoriatic arthritis demonstrated multidomain disease presentations, which correlated with worse disease activity, quality of life, and work productivity measures. This emphasizes the heterogeneity of psoriatic arthritis and the significance of assessing all disease domains for optimal disease management.

Summary: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a complex inflammatory disease related to psoriasis, presenting challenges in diagnosis and treatment. There are no diagnostic criteria or tests available, and disease heterogeneity may be explained by differences in genotype. New targeted therapies have shown promise in improving outcomes for PsA patients.

Summary: This multicenter, prospective, real-world observational study evaluated the impact of golimumab (GLM) on remission or low disease activity in patients with moderate-to-severe rheumatoid arthritis, progressive psoriatic arthritis, or severe axial spondyloarthritis who had failed previous treatment with one initial tumor necrosis factor a inhibitor. The study found that GLM treatment was effective in improving disease activity and quality of life in these patients, with high persistence rates over 18 months.

Summary: This study aimed to examine radiographic axial damage of the sacroiliac joints and spine in patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and spondyloarthritis (SpA) in private and academic Belgian practices. The data comparison between the two patient groups found that patients with SpA tend to have more severe spinal damage compared to those with PsA. In patients with PsA, the cervical spine is more often affected, while in patients with SpA, the location of syndesmophytes is more evenly distributed.

Summary: This study identified the association between traditional cardiovascular risk factors, diseases related factors, body composition, and adipokines with high cardiovascular risk in patients with psoriatic arthritis and non-psoriatic spondyloarthritis. The presence of sarcopenia and any traditional cardiovascular comorbidity were associated with high cardiovascular risk. Non-psoriatic spondyloarthritis patients had a lower chance of having high cardiovascular risk compared to psoriatic arthritis patients. Adipokine levels correlated with body composition but not with high cardiovascular risk. Sarcopenia was found to be an important determinant of high cardiovascular risk, possibly due to ectopic adipose tissue deposition in skeletal muscles. Physical therapy targeting sarcopenia, optimal treatment of traditional cardiovascular risk factors, and adequate disease control may help prevent atherosclerosis in spondyloarthritis.

Summary: This study evaluated the quality and performance of machine learning models in predicting microvascular and macrovascular diabetes complications in a Type 2 diabetes population. The results showed that neural networks were the most frequently used models, and age, duration of diabetes, and body mass index were common predictors. Most models demonstrated good discrimination performance, with random forest showing the best overall performance. However, further validation studies are needed before the clinical implementation of these models.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy and safety of colchicine for the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA). The study found that colchicine did not show significant benefits in reducing pain and improving physical function compared to placebo or other active comparators. The results suggest that future trials should focus on subgroups of OA patients with inflammation and mineralization who might benefit from colchicine.

Summary: This study aimed to explore patient-defined flares in psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and compare them to an increase in disease activity in psoriatic arthritis (DAPSA). The validity of a patient-reported flare question was also analyzed. The results showed that patient-reported flares were associated with disease activity and symptoms, and there was moderate agreement between patient and physician definitions of worsening.

Summary: This study explores the applicability of social cognitive theory (SCT) in improving symptom appraisal and help-seeking among patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases (ARDs). Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 33 ARD patients and the transcripts were coded using SCT as the framework. The study found that behavioral capacity and self-efficacy were lacking in symptom interpretation, leading to delayed help-seeking. Possible approaches to address this include education to improve behavioral capacity and self-efficacy and enhance expectations, observational learning, reinforcements, and reciprocal determinism.
