The South China Sea (SCS) is an excellent site for studying the process of conjugate margin rifting, and the origin and evolution of oceanic basins. Compared with the well-defined northern margin of the SCS, the western and southern segments of the SCS margin have not been researched in significant detail. To investigate the regional structure of the southwestern SCS, a gravity model is constructed, along with the lithospheric thermal structure along a wide-angle seismic profile. The profile extends across the conjugate margins of the Southwest Sub-Basin (SWSB) of the SCS and is based on the latest multiple geophysical measurements (including heat flow and thermo-physical parameters). The results show that the average thicknesses of the crust and thermal lithosphere along the profile are about 15 km and 57 km, respectively. The overall amount of extension of continental crust and lithosphere is more than 200 km. Thermal structure of the lithosphere shows that the continental margins are in a warm thermal state. The southwest SCS is characterized by ultra-wide, thinned continental crust and lithosphere, high Moho heat flow, early syn-rift faulted basins, undeformed late syn-rifting, and high seismic velocities in the lower crust. These various pieces of evidence suggest that the break-up of the mantle lithosphere occurred before that of the continental crust favouring a depth-dependent extension of the southwestern SCS margin.

Extensional structures and Cenozoic magmatism in the northwestern South China Sea

Jinwei Gao, Shiguo Wu, Thomas Luedmann, Chun-Feng Li, Lin Li, Yintao Lu, Zhili Yang, Liyan Tian, Yongpeng Qin, Taoran Song

Summary: This study examines the crustal structure and Cenozoic magmatism in the northwestern South China Sea using seismic reflection profiles, gravity and magnetic data, and refraction profiles. The results show the presence of basins/sags bounded by large normal faults and massifs with smaller normal faults. Magmatic edifices with positive gravity and magnetic anomalies are found within these structures. The study suggests that syn-rift and post-rift magmatism were influenced by mantle upwelling during seafloor spreading and plume-related mantle upwelling, respectively. The stretching factors indicate differential extension in the upper and lower crusts, possibly resulting from faulting and flow in the lower crust.

Lu Chen, Te-Huan Liu, Xiangze Wang, Yandong Wang, Xiwei Cui, Qingwei Yan, Le Lv, Junfeng Ying, Jingyao Gao, Meng Han, Jinhong Yu, Chengyi Song, Jinwei Gao, Rong Sun, Chen Xue, Nan Jiang, Tao Deng, Kazuhito Nishimura, Ronggui Yang, Cheng-Te Lin, Wen Dai

Summary: The rapid development of highly integrated microelectronic devices leads to a demand for advanced thermally conductive adhesives (TCAs) to solve the issue of heat transfer. Metal nanoflakes with a natural 2D structure and isotropic thermal conductivity are promising fillers for high-performance TCAs. However, achieving TCAs with thermal conductivity over 10 W m(-1) K-1 at filler content below 30 vol% remains challenging. This study introduces a top-down strategy to prepare 2D Ag nanoflakes with an intrinsic thermal conductivity of 398.2 W m(-1) K-1, reaching 93% of the theoretical value, and demonstrates their superior heat transfer efficiency in microelectronic cooling performance evaluations.

Co-Solvent Engineering Contributing to Achieve High-Performance Perovskite Solar Cells and Modules Based on Anti-Solvent Free Technology

Gu Li, Zhen Wang, Yuqi Wang, Zhengchi Yang, Pengyu Dong, Yancong Feng, Yue Jiang, Shien-Ping Feng, Guofu Zhou, Jun-Ming Liu, Jinwei Gao

Summary: This study introduces a simple and effective co-solvent engineering strategy to obtain pinhole-free and defect-less perovskite film without the use of anti-solvents. The addition of a co-solvent with strong coordination capacity and weak interaction with the main solvent allows for the fabrication of uniform and compact perovskite polycrystalline films. With the optimal co-solvent N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) and without the use of anti-solvent, a champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 22% has been achieved. This strategy provides guidance for co-solvent selection in anti-solvent free perovskite solar cells (PSCs) and promotes their commercial application.
