Summary: The study aimed to investigate the impact of antibiotics and antiseptics on the gastrointestinal microflora during implant surgery. It was found that a single dose of antibiotics in straightforward cases is recommended, and rinsing with chlorhexidine is highly recommended to minimize bacterial load.

Summary: The study evaluated changes of implant surfaces with different roughness after instrumentation with ultrasonic-driven scaler tips of different materials. Results showed that all tips except resin left extensive residuals on the surfaces, with the least change resulting from resin or carbon tips on machined surfaces.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of different mechanical debridement methods on the surface roughness of dental implants. It found that femtosecond laser-treated surfaces had higher roughness compared to conventionally machined and SLA surfaces. Mechanical debridement methods further increased the roughness of femtosecond laser-treated surfaces, while scaling reduced the roughness of SLA surfaces.

Summary: The aim of the study was to restore similar surface properties and elemental composition to virgin implants after debridement of contaminated titanium implant surfaces covered with debris. Different debridement methods were applied, with Er:YAG long pulse and ultrasonic groups found to be the most effective in debridement and showing the closest topography to virgin implants.

Summary: The purpose of this review is to provide a comprehensive overview of the available literature on the treatment of early prosthetic joint infection after revision total knee arthroplasty and provide treatment guidelines. The current literature suggests that debridement, antibiotics and implant retention is a valid treatment option for early infections after revision TKA with success rates of 50-70%.

Summary: This study focused on the impact of prescribing clindamycin instead of amoxicillin to penicillin-allergic patients on implant failure rates, revealing a significantly increased risk of failure and infection. The study suggests that penicillin allergy itself may not necessarily be a risk factor for early dental implant failure.

Summary: This study compared the risk of relapse in early periprosthetic joint infection caused by rifampicin-resistant and rifampicin-sensitive staphylococci after debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention (DAIR) treatment. It found that patients with rifampicin-resistant staphylococci had a higher risk of infection relapse compared to patients with rifampicin-sensitive bacteria.

Summary: There is significant variability in the response of biofilm-embedded Staphylococcus aureus to levofloxacin and rifampicin. A lower range response, combined with other factors, could be responsible for treatment failure.

Summary: This study compared the rate of post-surgical infection between single-dose antibiotic prophylaxis and the use of post-surgical antibiotics alone. The results suggest that a single preoperative dose of antibiotics is sufficient for reducing surgical site infections and should be preferred after implant placement whenever appropriate.

Summary: This review identified six studies investigating the use of laser therapy and antimicrobial photodynamic therapy in achieving re-osseointegration in peri-implantitis sites in animal models. Four out of six studies reported a higher degree of re-osseointegration following laser therapy. However, conflicting outcomes and limitations in the evidence quality warrant caution in drawing definitive conclusions.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the changes in the submucosal microbiome after non-surgical mechanical debridement therapy in diseased peri-implant sites. Submucosal plaques were collected before and after treatment, and 16S rRNA gene sequencing was used for analysis. The results showed that the microbiome diversity decreased and the microbial community profile shifted towards a healthier state after mechanical debridement.

Summary: Implant surface debridement alone improved the clinical parameters of peri-implantitis, while the use of systemic antibiotics in conjunction led to increased mucosal recession and improved bleeding on probing. Additionally, although there was no significant difference in the presence and proportions of studied bacteria between the two groups at the recall visit, certain bacteria showed a significant reduction in group A.

Summary: This study aimed to determine if a new combination of antibiotics decreases the failure of DAIR-treated acute prosthetic joint infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus. A retrospective analysis was performed on cases of orthopedic infections, and the results showed that the new antibiotic scheme had better outcomes compared to the traditional scheme, suggesting its potential clinical value.

Summary: Individuals with periodontitis have a higher risk of developing ischemic heart diseases and death in this 17-year follow-up study. The association between periodontitis and incidence of ischemic heart disease was particularly notable in women and older individuals. Additionally, periodontitis was more prevalent among men and was associated with mortality in all individuals, particularly in younger age groups.

Summary: The study aimed to compare self-perceived oral health and orofacial appearance in three different cohorts of 60-year-old individuals. Data from the Swedish National Study of Aging and Care were analyzed, and a cross-sectional design was used. The results showed that the participants reported a low number of self-perceived problems with oral health. However, a higher proportion in the 2014-2015 cohort experienced problems with bleeding gums. Overall, the 60-year-olds irrespective of birth cohort perceived their oral health and orofacial appearance as satisfactory.
