Summary: This study aimed to characterize the coronal plane femoral bowing in Far East Asians and determine optimal strategies for distal femoral resection in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) based on age, sex, and severity of varus deformity. The results showed that the most common femoral bowing pattern in Far East Asians is a grossly straight femur with a straight distal part. The choice of method for distal femoral resection in TKA should take into account the distal segmental axial deviation and distal bowing.

Summary: The aim of this study was to describe the indications and technical aspects of medial closing and lateral opening distal femoral osteotomy (MCDFO and LODFO) for patients with a valgus knee and to report clinical and radiological outcomes and complications. The study found that DFO is a reasonable treatment for lateral osteoarthritis in younger patients to avoid disease progression and the need for an UKA/TKA. However, there is a long rehabilitation time, a considerable risk for complications, and a high need for hardware removal.

Summary: This study aimed to report the knee function, quality of life, knee pain, and living conditions after distal femoral resection knee arthroplasty for non-tumor indications. The results from telephone interviews with 30 patients showed satisfactory functional status and quality of life after the surgery.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed in-hospital complications, readmissions, reoperations, and mortality in 45 patients who underwent distal femoral resection knee arthroplasty. The results showed that the patients were mostly elderly, with a median length of stay of 7 days, and a 2.2% mortality rate within one year post-surgery.

Summary: This retrospective study analyzed the survivorship and functional outcomes of lateral unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) performed with robotic and conventional surgery. The study found similar excellent clinical outcomes and revision rates in both groups at medium- to long-term follow-up.

Summary: This study evaluated the mid-term survivorship and patient-reported outcomes of robotic-assisted lateral unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA). The results demonstrated high survivorship and excellent patient satisfaction with robotic-assisted lateral UKA, even in patients who did not meet classic indications.

Summary: This study measured the femoral prosthesis flexion angle (FPFA) in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) using three-dimensional reconstruction and assessed the differences in early clinical efficacy between patients with different degrees of flexion. The results showed that a FPFA of 0-3 degrees significantly improved postoperative knee mobility and patients' Knee Society Scores, facilitating the recovery of knee function postoperatively.

Summary: A fully automated method using YOLOv4 and Resnet Landmark regression Algorithm (YARLA) was developed for quantifying knee alignment from full-leg radiographs. Results show that YARLA yields HKA angles similar to those of human experts, indicating its potential for automated assessment of knee alignment.

Summary: Current assessment methods for knee osteoarthritis (OA) lack comprehensive information to accurately predict outcomes. In this study, deep learning (DL) risk assessment models were developed using baseline knee MRI to predict the progression of knee OA to total knee replacement (TKR) over a 108-month follow-up period. DL models using MRI showed higher diagnostic performance than traditional models using clinical risk factors or knee radiographs. The ensemble DL models combining MRI and radiograph data achieved the highest AUCs, indicating superior predictive ability.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate postoperative changes in the coronal alignment of the ankle joint in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for different degrees of knee deformity. The study found that there were significant changes in ankle alignment in the group with a valgus correction of 10 degrees or more. However, regardless of the degree of knee deformity correction, TKA did not result in significant changes in the tibiotalar tilt angle. These findings have important implications for assessing candidates for TKA and considering potential causes of postoperative ankle pain.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the shape of the anterior femoral resection surface in varus and valgus knees. Virtual TKA was performed using three different anterior flange flexion angles. The study found that the variation in the anterior femoral resection surface with malrotation was smaller in valgus knees.

Summary: The study found that the degree of valgus deformity and the grade of osteoarthritis do not predict the outcome of total knee arthroplasty in patients with advanced valgus osteoarthritis. Surgery appears to be justified in patients who failed nonoperative treatment, regardless of the degree of deformity.

Summary: This study retrospectively investigated the relationship between augment heights and sleeves in implant survival. It was found that distal femoral augmentation of 8 mm or more without metaphyseal sleeve fixation resulted in higher rates of aseptic femoral loosening. Therefore, the use of metaphyseal sleeves is recommended to avoid early aseptic femoral loosening in cases requiring high distal femoral augmentation.
