Summary: This paper evaluates the impact of a large-scale school meal program in rural China on the health and nutritional status of students aged 6-16 in compulsory education. The results show that program participation is associated with a higher child height-for-age, particularly among students in better health condition. However, the impact on the most disadvantaged students is small or not significant. There are no significant differences in effects across individual and household characteristics. The study suggests that more support is needed to achieve broader impacts that effectively reach all vulnerable students.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of two different duration and intensity multicomponent educational health promotion strategies on adolescents' cardiovascular health. The results showed that the school-based health promotion program had a neutral effect on the cardiovascular health of the adolescents over a four-year period. Further research is needed to assess the efficacy of school-based health promotion programs.

Summary: This study found that smaller schools, special education schools, higher proportion of Indigenous students, lower attendance rates, remote locations, and lower socioeconomic areas are the factors most strongly associated with lower HPV vaccination initiation. Initiatives to support these schools may contribute most to reducing the variation in HPV vaccination uptake at a school-level.

Summary: In this study, we evaluated the tribological performance of polypropylene composites with wood-flour fillers obtained as a by-product from the wood-processing industry. The addition of wood fillers significantly improved the tribological performance of the composites compared to neat polypropylene materials, reducing friction coefficient and improving wear resistance. The use of wood fillers could compensate for the poorer properties of recycled materials, making the polypropylene-wood composites a suitable sustainable choice for tribological applications.

Summary: School-based prevention programs targeting known risk factors of suicidal thoughts and behaviors among adolescents show some promise in reducing these issues in the short term, but more research is needed to assess long-term effectiveness. The results indicate that addressing risk factors can have a significant impact on suicidal behaviors, while effectiveness on suicidal ideation appears to be equal regardless of risk factor targeting.

Summary: This study aimed to adapt a smoking cessation intervention for lower socioeconomic status (SES) smokers, resulting in a potentially effective program with behavioral support and pharmacotherapy. Pilot testing showed that half of the lower SES smokers successfully quit smoking, and participants appreciated the opportunities for social comparison and role modeling provided by the intervention and the feedback from trainers.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the association between sustained smoking and quitting with work-related outcomes among older workers. Results showed that sustained smokers did not have less favorable work-related outcomes than non-smokers, and there was no evidence that quitters had more favorable work-related outcomes than sustained smokers. The benefits of smoking cessation for employers might take a longer time to develop.
