Summary: This study revealed the importance of Shox2 for TCN function through RNA sequencing and related experiments, showing that Shox2 loss affects neuronal firing properties and can lead to abnormal thalamocortical oscillations, resulting in epilepsy. The results indicate that Shox2 is a key transcription factor for thalamocortical function in adult mice.

Summary: Two subpopulations of midbrain dopamine neurons, the conventional and atypical populations, exhibit different dynamic ranges and projection targets in vitro. The major difference lies in the gating of voltage-gated sodium channels, resulting in lower maximum frequency for the conventional population.

Summary: This study constructed a mathematical model to investigate noise-induced population bursting in neural networks, where calcium conductance played a crucial role in the bursting dynamics. Optimal coherence of the network was achieved through an optimal level of stochastic stimulus, known as coherence resonance (CR), and the interplay of calcium conductance and noise intensity could modify the degree of CR.

Summary: The study indicates that exploring the same shape in two different modalities (haptic and visual) results in higher aesthetic ratings in the second exploration, independent of sensory modality. While the direction of crossmodal influence appears to be bidirectional, previous visual experience is shown to be a predictor of haptic aesthetic experience. This suggests an association between haptic and visual aesthetics in the experience of 3D shapes, with crossmodal associations playing a role.

Summary: There is a growing interest in combining randomness and fuzziness to solve portfolio optimization problems in finance. This paper proposes a data-driven algorithmic approach to obtain optimal portfolio weights efficiently and robustly, focusing on the robustness and sparsity of the solution. The experimental results show that the PS (PSO) algorithm outperforms others in constructing optimal fuzzy minimum variance portfolios.

Summary: This paper discusses the importance of including higher moments such as skewness and kurtosis in portfolio risk management for constructing resilient portfolios and developed a set of new metrics to optimize portfolios. The research results show that novel data-driven resilient portfolio risk measures based on volatility correlation and sign correlation outperform the commonly used tangency portfolio using portfolio standard deviation in maximizing mean-risk portfolios.

Summary: The development of algorithmic trading, particularly using Hidden Markov Models (HMMs) and robust Kalman filtering (KF) with data-driven innovation volatility forecasts (DDIVF), has shown promising results in enhancing predictive power and improving trading strategies. A novel combined pairwise trading strategy utilizing HMM and DDIVF has demonstrated superior performance compared to using DDIVF alone in numerical experiments with two cointegrated stocks.
