As part of the accompanying research to the corresponding research initiative ENERGIEWENDEBAUEN, more than 900 research projects are analyzed with respect to various topics. The so-called scientific cross-sectional research is a methodology for the evaluation of research projects on superordinate level. The results provide insights into national research priorities. The initiative focusses on research projects around the topic of energy in buildings and city quarters. The research projects should enable the development of software-based solutions and the application of digital tools in this case. In addition to a clear terminological distinction, the cross-cutting relevance of software development in the context of research projects, a typology of software-based approaches, a trend towards multiscale modeling, the programming implementation, licensing models and the digital ecosystem of applications are discussed within this work.
