Summary: The treatment of rheumatoid arthritis was revolutionized with the use of molecular-targeted drugs that target immunoregulatory molecules. However, systemic lupus erythematosus is a disease with high heterogeneous immune abnormalities, and diverse cells or molecules can be treatment targets. Thus, the identification of subpopulations based on immune abnormalities is essential for the development of effective treatment.

Further research into the pleiotropic biology of interferons and their intersection with SLE disease pathology will be crucial for the development of effective targeted therapies.

Although research on vaccines' efficacy and immune response in immunosuppressed patients has increased, there is still a lack of data investigating these parameters for those receiving biological agents, leading to a lack of consensus on a vaccination policy for patients with SLE.

Summary: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease that primarily affects women of childbearing age and causes damage to multiple organs. The pathogenesis of SLE involves genetic and environmental factors, and there is currently no effective cure for SLE. Recent evidence suggests that gut microbiota, as an environmental factor, can trigger autoimmunity and contribute to the development of SLE. Modulating gut microbiota through dietary intervention, drug therapy, probiotics, and fecal microbiome transplantation may be a potential treatment for SLE. This review summarizes the dysbiosis of gut microbiota in SLE, potential mechanisms linking gut microbiota and SLE, and immune dysregulation associated with gut microbiota in SLE.

The results suggest that IVIg therapy is effective for LN patients refractory to conventional treatment, but caution is needed when using it on patients with class V LN. Although adverse reactions are few, these data should be interpreted cautiously due to the lack of controlled studies with long-term follow-up.

Summary: This study identified an immune signature for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) based on the expression of signaling lymphocytic activation molecule family (SLAMF) receptors on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). The frequency of SLAMF1+ B cells, SLAMF4+ monocytes, and SLAMF4+ NK showed correlations with disease activity. Consensus clustering analysis also identified two cell clusters, SLESMB and SLEcTFH, which were significantly increased in SLE compared to controls.

Summary: This study evaluated the safety of anifrolumab in patients with moderate to severe systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The results showed that serious adverse events were less common in the anifrolumab group compared to the placebo group. The most common adverse events included upper respiratory tract infection, nasopharyngitis, bronchitis, and herpes zoster. Anifrolumab is considered a well-tolerated option for the treatment of SLE patients with good safety.

Summary: Bedside sonographic measurement of optic nerve sheath diameter is helpful in diagnosing elevated intracranial pressure, and proved valuable in a case of immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome. The patient showed wide optic nerve sheath diameters and bulging optic discs bilaterally. Prompt treatment resulted in a successful recovery with no long-term neurological deficits.
