Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of repeated low-dose methotrexate (MTX) on rat kidneys and assess the efficacy of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in attenuating this effect. The results showed that repeated low-dose MTX administration resulted in renal tissue toxicity and deterioration of renal function in rats, which were attenuated by PRP and AD-MSCs through their anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, and anti-fibrotic properties.

Summary: The study revealed that combined high nitrate concentrations and thermal stresses severely affected the physiology of the coral, leading to decreased Symbiodiniaceae density, Chl a concentration, apoptosis, bleaching, and tissue detachment. Corals under thermal stress exhibited the highest oxidation and upregulation of Hsps and caspase 3, resulting in coral discoloration.

Summary: The study demonstrated that Cur had a protective effect on ATO-induced kidney injury in ducks by reducing body weight loss, ATO content in the kidney, kidney pathological damage, MDA level, and activating the Nrf2 pathway. Cur also alleviated mitochondrial swelling, autolysosomes generating, nuclear damage, and regulated autophagy and apoptosis-related gene and protein expression levels. Furthermore, Cur administration improved the disturbance of lipid metabolism caused by ATO exposure.

Summary: Early postnatal exposure to hypoxia can negatively affect vital organs, particularly the kidneys. A study comparing neonatal rats housed in either a hypoxic or normoxic chamber found that hypoxic rats had higher expressions of hypoxia-inducible factor-1 in their kidneys. They also exhibited higher hematocrit, serum creatinine, and lactate levels, as well as reduced body weight and protein loss in kidney tissue. Histologically, hypoxic rats showed glomerular atrophy, tubular injury, and renal fibrosis with collagen fiber deposition. The kidneys of hypoxic rats also had enhanced expression of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidases, as well as upregulation of proteins involved in apoptosis and pro-inflammatory cytokines. The study suggests that hypoxic kidney injury in neonatal rats is associated with oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis, and fibrosis.

Summary: This study establishes a cell model to investigate the effects of hyaluronic acid (HA) on rotator cuff tendinopathy (RCT). The results show that HA with low molecular weight can reduce cell apoptosis, reverse the activation of caspase 3 and 7, and counteract the oxidative stress (OS) induced by RCT. Additionally, HA with higher molecular weight improves the expression of collagen 1. These findings enhance our understanding of the mechanisms of HA in the treatment of RCT.

Summary: Siman Gao and colleagues found that the novel PKC delta isoform mediates a pro-apoptotic function in response to oxidative stressors, regulated by an interplay between SUMOylation and phosphorylation. This suggests potentially novel mechanisms for cell protection against hydrogen peroxide induced apoptosis.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effects of new generation Doppler ultrasonography (DUSG) at different frequencies on cochlea and cochlear nucleus (CN) in rats during the prenatal period. The results showed that multiple administrations of new generation DUSG to pregnant rats did not have harmful effects on the cochlear neural tissue. High frequencies were found to be more sensitive in the cochlea when applying DUSG.

Summary: This study investigates the negative effects of x-ray radiation on the pituitary gland and the potential protective effects of the alpha 2-adrenergic receptor agonist dexmedetomidine. The results show that x-ray irradiation causes necrosis and damage to the pituitary gland, while dexmedetomidine treatment reduces necrotic cells and protects against apoptosis. These findings suggest that dexmedetomidine may be useful in preventing radiation-induced pituitary damage.
