Summary: This population-based study in Korea found that systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) was independently associated with a higher risk of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease (AD) and vascular dementia (VaD). The association was stronger for VaD in SLE patients under 65 years old, suggesting a need for early screening and prevention in this high-risk group.

Summary: Trichomonas vaginalis infection is a prevalent sexually transmitted infection that may increase the risk of developing genitourinary cancers. This study investigated the association between trichomoniasis and BPH, PCa, and BC, and found that trichomoniasis was significantly associated with an increased risk of BPH and PCa. Furthermore, the risk was even higher for patients with both trichomoniasis and depression.

Summary: This study identified multiple polymorphic loci in the CARD14 gene associated with susceptibility to psoriasis and confirmed the significant correlation of several loci with the development of psoriasis. Bioinformatic analysis further demonstrated the impact of these loci on gene function and identified two protective haplotypes for the disease.

Summary: Short-term exposure to air pollution, specifically PM2.5 and ozone, is associated with an increased risk of mortality from COVID-19. An increase in PM2.5 exposure over three weeks is linked to a 69.6% higher risk, while a three-day exposure to ozone is associated with a 29.0% higher risk. There are variations in these associations among different demographics and racial/ethnic groups.
