Summary: In this study, the mechanical properties of vegetable oil-based waterborne polyurethane (WPUs) were improved by incorporating sustainable diols. The resulting films demonstrated higher tensile strength and toughness compared to state-of-the-art systems. Among the different diols investigated, WPU-B films exhibited superior performance and increased corrosion resistance. This research provides strategies for controlling the physical properties of environmentally friendly WPUs and developing high-performance coatings for anticorrosion applications.

Summary: Cloisite 20A-polyurethane (C20-PU) nanocomposites were prepared using three processing schemes at different reinforcement levels. The H-bonding chemistry between PU and C20 led to a compartment effect in C20-PU, affecting the mechanical performance. By switching the sequence of homogenizer (HSH) and ultrasonic bath (USB), elastic and plastic nanocomposites were produced, with significant changes in the plasticity index. DMA studies showed improved thermomechanical properties in C20-PU nanocomposites, with a right shift in the glass transition temperature (Tg) and reduced Tg peak intensities.

Summary: This study presents a novel method to create a UV-curable nanocomposite coating with exceptional corrosion resistance. Modified graphene oxide was introduced to improve the dispersion and interaction with the resin matrix. The addition of a suitable amount of graphene oxide resulted in a significant reduction in film porosity, improved resistance to ionic current and charge transfer. However, excessive loading of graphene oxide could potentially harm the corrosion resistance properties of the coating.
