The accurate measurements on density of the binary mixtures of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and sodium dodecyl sulphate in pure water and in methanol(1) + water (2) mixed solvent media containing (0.10, 0.20, and 0.30) volume fractions of methanol at 308.15, 318.15, and 323.15 K are reported. The concentrations are varied from (0.03 to 0.12) mol.l(-1) of sodium dodecyl sulphate in presence of similar to 5.0x10(-4) mol.l(-1) cetyltrimethylammonium bromide. The results showed almost increase in the densities with increasing surfactant mixture concentration, also the densities are found to decrease with increasing temperature over the entire concentration range, investigated in a given mixed solvent medium and these values are found to decrease with increasing methanol content in the solvent composition. The concentration dependence of the apparent molar volumes appear to be negligible over the entire concentration range, investigated in a given mixed solvent medium and the apparent molar volumes increase with increasing temperature and are found to decrease with increasing methanol content in the solvent composition.

Summary: In the title compound, molecules form hydrogen-bonded zigzag chains along the b axis and parallel to the (001) plane through O-H...O and C-H...O hydrogen bonds. The molecular packing is stabilized by van der Waals interactions between these chains along the a and c axes. Intermolecular interactions in the crystal structure were quantified and analyzed using Hirshfeld surface analysis.

Recent Advances in Improving the Bioavailability of Hydrophobic/Lipophilic Drugs and Their Delivery via Self-Emulsifying Formulations

Rakesh Kumar Ameta, Kunjal Soni, Ajaya Bhattarai

Summary: Formulations based on emulsions have attracted interest in enhancing hydrophobic and lipophilic drug delivery and its bioavailability. These drug delivery systems use emulsion formations to overcome the issue of less oral bioavailability in hydrophobic and lipophilic drugs. Fine oil in water emulsions are formed when introduced to aqueous material and promote the spread of the drug in the gastrointestinal tract. Innovative drug carriers such as self-emulsifying pellets, tablets, capsules, and microspheres have been developed for controlled release and improved bioavailability of lipophilic/hydrophobic drugs.

Impact of double headed geminis on leucine and ninhydrin reaction in buffer solvent

Mihalj Posa, Ajaya Bhattarai, Javed Masood Khan, Bidyut Saha, Dileep Kumar

Summary: The rates of the title reaction were measured in a double-headed micellar medium using UV-vis single beam spectroscopy. Gemini surfactants showed higher rate constants compared to CTAB, following first- and fractional-order paths in the reactions of Leu and ninhydrin, respectively. The impact of double-headed geminis on the reaction was explained and a pseudo-phase model of micellar activity was employed to interpret the observation.

Applications of ion exchange resins in environmental remediation

Milan K. Barman, Ajaya Bhattarai, Bidyut Saha

Summary: Water pollution is caused by various contaminants such as heavy metals, emerging organic contaminants, pesticides, organic waste, organic dyes, radionuclides, fluorides, etc. These pollutants are a concern for engineers, environmentalists, and scientists. Recycling wastewater after treatment to remove organic contaminants and heavy metal pollutants is important due to the lack of freshwater. Methods such as chemical precipitation, ion exchange, adsorption, membrane filtration, flocculation, coagulation, flotation, and electrochemical techniques are used to eliminate contaminants from wastewater. The ion exchange process is the most popular and effective method.

Micellization pattern of cationic surfactants in presence of azo dye in methanol mixed media

Neelam Shahi, Sujit Kumar Shah, Amar Prasad Yadav, Ajaya Bhattarai

Summary: Conductivity measurements were conducted at three different temperatures to investigate the micellization behavior of cationic surfactants in mixed solvent systems. The presence of the azo dye methyl red was found to interact with the surfactants, leading to reduced critical micelle concentration values. Thermodynamic properties were calculated to further understand the micellization process in the absence and presence of methyl red, showing the spontaneous nature of the surfactant-dye interaction.
