Summary: The native isolate B. bassiana TGS2.3 from Bangladesh showed high bio-efficacy against the vegetable insect pest, S. litura, causing mortality in different stages and deformities in pupae and adults. These results highlight the potential of TGS2.3 as a biocontrol agent against the destructive pest. Further studies are needed to assess the efficacy of this native isolate under different conditions.

Summary: Combining chemical and microbiological methods using entomopathogenic filamentous fungi enables the production of flavonoid glycosides. In this study, biotransformations were performed using the strains Beauveria bassiana KCH J1.5, Isaria fumosorosea KCH J2, and Isaria farinosa KCH J2.6 on six flavonoid compounds synthesized chemically. Various flavonoid derivatives were obtained through these biotransformations. These derivatives show potential in combating antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The substrates and products mentioned in this study are novel compounds and are reported for the first time.

Summary: The citrus mealybug is a greenhouse insect pest that causes damage to horticultural crops, resulting in economic losses. The effectiveness of traditional insecticides and a combination of insect growth regulators with entomopathogenic fungal-based insecticides were tested, but the results were not satisfactory.

Summary: The biotransformation of methylated flavonoids using cultures of entomopathogenic filamentous fungi is an effective method to obtain glycosylated derivatives with increased solubility. In this study, chemical synthesis and biotransformation were combined to produce novel glycosylated flavonoid derivatives. These derivatives, obtained from both 2'-methylflavanone and 2'-methylflavone, show promise as potential drugs and require further investigation into their biological activity and pharmacological efficacy.

Summary: This study evaluated the pathogenicity and feeding efficacy of 12 isolates of Beauveria bassiana on Spodoptera frugiperda. It was found that the isolates QB-3.45, QB-3.46, and QB-3.428 exhibited high pathogenicity, causing significant mortality in the eggs of S. frugiperda within 7 days of treatment. This suggests that these B. bassiana isolates can be used as an effective biological control agent against S. frugiperda.

Summary: Resvebassianol A is a glycosylated metabolite of resveratrol produced by B. bassiana, showing antioxidant, regenerative, and anti-inflammatory activities without cytotoxicity. Its total synthesis involves key reactions such as the construction of a stilbene core via novel Heck reaction and glycosylation with unnatural methylglucopyranosyl bromide.

Summary: This study investigates the use of endophytic entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) to control Spodoptera litura, a common pest in tomato crops. The results show that colonization by an indigenous EPF strain leads to increased mortality in the insect larvae, as well as abnormal growth and developmental processes. The EPF strain is found to survive in different plant parts and can be vertically transmitted to progenies via seeds. This study suggests that inoculating endophytic EPF into seeds or seedlings could be an effective and sustainable approach for pest management in horticulture crops.

Summary: In laboratory experiments, it was found that treating maize plants with Beauveria bassiana prolonged the larval stage of Spodoptera frugiperda and resulted in fewer male moths. Field trials also showed that seed treatment with B. bassiana reduced infestation of maize plants by S. frugiperda, indicating its potential as a biocontrol agent.

Summary: The study in Lampung Province, Indonesia, identified 12 fungal isolates from corn fields, with 4 isolates causing higher mortality of Spodoptera litura. Among these, Aspergillus oryzae was found for the first time as an entomopathogenic fungus of S. litura. While S. litura generally caused slight damages to corn, severe damage was observed in 2011 and crop failure in 2018.

Summary: This study assessed the changes in antioxidant enzyme activities and metabolomic profile in S. frugiperda larvae infected with B. bassiana. The results showed an initial increase and subsequent decrease in the activities of antioxidant enzymes in the infected larvae. A total of 93 differential metabolites were identified, with 41 up-regulated and 52 down-regulated. Further analysis revealed that B. bassiana infection affected key metabolic pathways in S. frugiperda larvae.

Summary: This study reveals significant differences in secondary metabolite profiles between an entomopathogenic fungus isolated from the wild and those exposed to spaceflight conditions. The findings support the use of space mutation as a tool for developing fungal strains with increased toxicity/virulence against target insect hosts.

Summary: Granule-based products of solid state fermented micro-organisms are available for biocontrol, and liquid fermented biomass can be used for fluid-bed coating. The colonization of granules by fungal biomass depends on concentration and strain, with different fungal species requiring different concentrations for optimal colonization. The technology of fluid-bed coating shows promise for developing cost-effective biocontrol products.

Summary: Insect pests and phytopathogens have a significant impact on crop yield and quality. The fall armyworm (FAW) and the phytopathogen Fusarium graminearum cause economic losses in crops like barley and wheat. However, the entomopathogen Beauveria bassiana has limited efficacy against FAW and its antiphytopathogenic activities against F. graminearum are unclear. This study identified differentially expressed genes in B. bassiana-infected FAW larvae, and the overexpression of the BbAorsin gene enhanced virulence against FAW larvae and inhibited F. graminearum growth.

Summary: This study tested the pathogenicity of Beauveria bassiana PfBb on the agricultural pest Spodoptera frugiperda by evaluating the activities of protective enzymes and detoxifying enzymes in different larval instars. The results showed that B. bassiana PfBb could infect all six larval instars of S. frugiperda, and its virulence increased with the concentration of spores. Additionally, the activities of protective enzymes and detoxifying enzymes in the first three instars changed significantly with infection time, while such variations were not obvious in the fifth and sixth instars.
