Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Astragalus membranaceus polysaccharide (AMP) on the growth performance, body composition and non-specific immune index of white shrimps (Litopenaeus vannamei). The results demonstrated that AMP with appropriate dose could promote the growth of shrimps and improve their disease resistance.

Summary: The study revealed that ultra-early weaning negatively affected the growth performance of piglets, with impaired body weight, average daily gain, feed intake, feed efficiency, and growth rate compared to those with a longer suckling period. However, ultra-early weaning had positive effects on the immune status and fecal microbiota composition of piglets.

Summary: This study investigated the role of gut microbiota in the hypoglycemic effect of Astragalus membranaceus polysaccharides (AMP) in db/db mice. Treatment with AMP significantly alleviated diabetic symptoms and restored gut microbiota community, leading to increased production of short chain fatty acids (SCFA) in feces. The relative abundance of two intestinal bacteria, Akkermansia and Faecalibaculum, were found to be positively correlated with the hypoglycemic effect of AMP and fecal SCFA production. Furthermore, AMP treatment stimulated the secretion of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and improved intestinal integrity. Mechanistic study revealed that the increased SCFA after AMP treatment could enhance the expression of G protein-coupled receptors 41/43 and tight junction proteins, resulting in the alleviation of diabetic symptoms in db/db mice.

Summary: Brain impairment is a common complication of diabetes, and dietary flavonoids from Astragalus membranaceus have been found to ameliorate this damage. The flavonoids modulate the gut-microbiota-brain axis, leading to decreased blood glucose, protected blood brain barrier, improved energy metabolism, and enriched intestinal microbiome. This study provides an alternative solution for preventing and treating diabetic cognition impairment.

Summary: The study found that co-administration of total polysaccharides from Astragalus membranaceus and Codonopsis pilosula could improve clinical symptoms, restore immune balance, and alleviate colonic mucosal damage in colitis mice. The unique efficacy of co-administration depended on the activation of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) and upregulation of isovaleric acid and butyrate at specific doses.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of dietary coated lysozyme on growth performance, serum biochemical indexes, antioxidant activity, digestive enzyme activity, intestinal permeability, and cecal microbiota in weaned piglets. The results showed that the addition of 500 mg/kg coated lysozyme improved the growth performance, increased digestive enzyme activity, and reduced oxidative stress in piglets. High-throughput sequencing results also indicated that coated lysozyme treatment effectively improved the composition of the intestinal microbiota.

Summary: This study suggests that fermented Astragalus membranaceus (BFA) has a potential therapeutic effect on hyperuricemia. BFA can lower serum uric acid levels, attenuate renal inflammation, regulate the expression of urate transporters, and increase the abundance of butyrate-producing bacteria and probiotics. These findings indicate that BFA could be a novel safe and effective functional food for treating hyperuricemia.

Summary: This study evaluated the immunotoxic effects of thallium (Tl) on Nile tilapia fingerlings and the recovery role of dietary Astragalus membranaceus polysaccharides (ASs). The results showed that Tl exposure had negative effects on hematobiochemical parameters and immune indices of the fish, as well as increased susceptibility to bacterial infection. However, feeding ASs could partially alleviate these effects.

Summary: The removal of cotyledons has a greater impact on shoot growth, especially when both cotyledons are removed. In the shoot, more Mn is absorbed to improve the lowered photosynthetic efficiency, while increased Na may promote carbohydrate consumption and amino acid synthesis. In the root, the participation of K and B aids in cell division and expansion to maintain root growth.
